The University of Sierra Leone (USL) on Wednesday 8th September 2010 hosted the second professional Seminar for selected final year students from the constituent colleges of Fourah Bay College, (FBC) the Institute of Public Administration and Management (IPAM) and College of Medicine and Allied Health Sciences (COMAHS) at the Atlantic Hall, National Stadium in Freetown.  This annual event started in 2009 with prospect of continuity as long as students graduate very year from universities in the country.  For the first time, this years seminar will be followed in October this year by a job trade fair in Freetown.

Addressing the students before the start of the seminar, the Pro-Vice Chancellor University of Sierra Leone Professor T.B.R Yormah told them that the seminar was designed to help develop final year students in various course areas from colleges within the university system. He informed them that the seminar was with the aim of introducing students to the world of employment, and on methods to follow when applying for a job in addition to helping them link with potential employers of various institutions.

Profe
ssor Yormah admonished the students to take advantage of the seminar and to also make good use of what they learnt. Make the best use of this seminar and become very successful personalities in the near future, he impressed on them, while reminding them of empowering the university colleges they came from.

Giving a presentation on how to prepare Cover Letters and Curriculum Vitae when applying for a job, the Consultant Lead Facilitator from Creatin Links Organization, Mr. Emeka King said the seminar will help create an affordable impact on the lives of the students, adding that it also marks the start of a venture in seeking a job. He underpinned the need for competence on the part of the students for employers to offer them jobs.

The seminar concluded with group deliberations on topics such as how to face job interview, job search strategies and interview skills, practical work on how to prepare a CV and a Cover Letter for an application. The groups also engaged in mock interview sessions to test what they acquired from the seminar.
