HANCI Donates School Materials to School Children


Local tabloid reports say Help a Needy Child International Sierra Leone (HANCI-SL) a Non Governmental Organization (NGO) based in Sierra Leone has donated school materials to about 250 street children in Makeni, Northern Sierra Leone worth Le 90 million. The donation was aimed at improving and achieving quality education for street children who have cut off all family links during the countrys civil war. The programme reports say was said to have been funded by a United Kingdom (U.K) based non-governmental organization Street Children of Sierra Leone (SCOSL). According to reports the scheme was conceived by a British national, Tom Dallact last year with the aim of providing training and counseling for street children and also reunifying them with their parents.

 

Police Intercept Counterfeit Dollars at Airport

 

It has been reported by local tabloids that personnel of the Sierra Leone Police have intercepted counterfeit dollar notes from a Nigerian at the Lungi International Airport last week. The counterfeit dollar notes estimated at US$ 22,000 were said to have been displayed at Police Headquarters by the Local Unit Commander Lungi Division, Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Mustapha Kamara past Tuesday. Nyajide Ekechie was nabbed by police as he was attempting to cash some of the fake dollars at a foreign exchange booth at the airport, reports add. He is currently detained at the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) in Freetown helping in police investigation.

 

Court Grants Bail to Ex-Ambassador and 3 Others.

 

Local tabloid reports say Magistrate Davies Cole of Court No. 11 has granted bail to Dr. Sallieu Turay former Ambassador to the Russian Federation and three others in the assault matter of his wife Hawa. The four accused reports say were granted bail in the sum of Le 10 million each. According to reports the four are facing two counts of assault and wounding, an incident that reportedly took place at Juba Hill in Freetown on 2nd September, 2010. The four were reportedly warned by the Magistrate to keep the peace otherwise their bail would be withdrawn.

 

Chiefdom Councils Learn Budget Management

 

Newspaper reports monitored state that a two-day workshop on budget management and formulation, execution and reporting was conducted for Central Chiefdom Finance Clerks (CCFC) in Bo recently. According to reports 400 CCFC and treasury clerks drawn from the south, east and northern regions took part in the training geared towards capacitating them in dealing with financial matters.


3 Cars Crash at Kissy Old Road


Local tabloids report have it that a Nissan maxima with registration number AFB 363 running at high speed plunged into two stationary vehicles last weekend along Kissy Bye Pass Road in the east end of Freetown. Three people reports say are in critical conditions at different hospitals receiving treatment.

 

Mayor says Liberian Counterparts will Visit Sierra Leone

 

The Mayor of the Freetown Municipality, His Lordship Herbert George-Williams HAS said that their Liberia counterparts will reciprocate the visit paid by him and the Kailahun District Chairman, Rtd. Capt. Tommy Nuyma to Sierra Leone in October this year. The mayor is reported as saying that it was in furtherance of the cordial relationship between the two countries.  He reportedly said that their visit to Liberia was to build good relationship and know the operations of their own councils, especially as a next door neighbor bordering with Kailahun District.

 

Gruesome Road Accident Leaves 1 Dead, 2 Badly Injured      

 

A gruesome road accident involving a taxi and a truck load of fire wood that occurred along the Bo-Masiaka Highway on Tuesday 7th September 2010 left a middle aged man dead and seriously injuring two others. According to report, at about 2: 00am on that fateful day, the taxi cab with Registration Number ADU 360 heading for Bo with three passengers developed mechanical problem close to a village called Konta, some seventeen miles away from Masiaka resulting in the loss of control by the driver, Momodu Kamara.  The heedless cab was said to have run into the wood truck with Registration Number ADB 737 heading from the opposite direction. The collision led to the untimely death of one of the three passengers on board the taxi who was later identified as Musa Sesay, while the other two passengers sustained serious injury.


Bench warrant for Army Corporal

 

Magistrate Benneh of Court No. 4 on 8th September reportedly issued a bench warrant for one Corporal Moses Sandy Massaquoi and a civilian for refusing to make appearance in a matter involving fraud.  The two people are reported to have conspired to obtain money by false pretense from Kadija Tunis at Adonkia in the west of Freetown.  According to reports on the 30th July 2007 the accused persons, Moses Sandy Massaquoi and Mr. Kargbo conspired together  with others unknown to defraud Kadija Tunis the sum of Le28,000.000 (Twenty-Eight Million Leones) by falsely representing to the complainant that they had land and an incomplete building at Adonkia.
