4 Sent to Jail for Selling unregistered Sim Cards


Local tabloid reports say that the Freetown Magistrate Court No. 2 has on Wednesday 8th September 2010 sentenced four (4) people to either three (3) months imprisonment or pay a fine of Le 300,000 each for selling unregistered sim cards. The four accused reports went on  were arrested on the 4th August 2010 at Goderich  Street and Kissy Road in Freetown by a joint team of police and NATCOM personnel for violating NATCOM call for all sim cards to be registered. Bashiru Kamara, Alhaji Bangura, Ansu Kebbie and Osman Jalloh were  reportedly caught selling sim cards without registration  forms contrary to section 7 (1) of the National Telecommunication Act 2009.


UNDP and Law Officers Train 93 Court Supervisors in Bo


Newspaper reports have it that the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Sierra Leone Law Officers Department have on Monday trained about 93 court chairman and supervisors at the Bo City Hall. Southern Sierra Leone. According to reports the training  was aimed at upgrading the knowledge level of court chairman and supervisors in order to be well informed about their roles and functions in the court jurisdiction  and monitoring. The State Counsel South Manfred Sesay in reported to have said that the training was geared towards capacitating  court chairman and supervisors with knowledge about their functions ,procedures and limitation of their powers. The officials were also trained on human right jurisdiction in order to ensure justice for all. Similar training reports say  would be conducted in the East and North shortly.

 

Two (2) in Court for Fraud


Newspaper reports say two men are  currently appearing in Magistrate Court No 5 presided  by Magistrate Toma Barnet for defrauding the pastor of Reformed United Evangelical Church at Regent. The men Jespi Manso Thoronka and Sahr Kelly are alleged to have received the sum of Le 27 million from Rev. Raymond Patrick Foray with the pretext that they would  purchase building materials for a school at Regent reports continue.. The two are reported to have threatened the pastor and his family to drop the case.


WHO Donates  to Ministry of Health 


Reports monitored in our local tabloids say that  the World Health Organization (WHO) has on Wednesday 8th September 2010 donated   to the Ministry of Health and Sanitation 28 Motor bikes, 7 computers and accessories and a vehicle valued  at 160 United States Dollars. The donation according to reports  was meant to help ease the disease surveillance issue in the country. The WHO country representative Dr. Wondimagegnebu  Alumu is reported to have said that his organization was committed to support the strengthening of the health system and the free health care policy.


Principals and Headmasters to Sign Performance Contract


The Minister of Education, Youths and Sports Dr. Minkailu Bah has on Thursday 2nd September 2010 disclosed at a jam  pack  crowd at Saint Francis Secondary School Hall in Makeni Northern Sierra Leone that principals and headmasters would begin to sign performance contracts. This according to reports would  ensure quality performance from heads of schools in the country. The minister however  reportedly  warmed  school principals to desist from admitting school pupils who did not pass the  National Primary School Examination (NPSE) and  the Basic Examination Certificate Examination (BECE).


Police Arrest Medical Doctor and 5 Others for Stealing Drugs


Local news reports say the Police in Kenema has  reportedly  confirmed the arrest and detention of the District Medical Officers of the Kailahuin Government Hospital Dr. Bum for the alleged theft of over forty cartons of assorted drugs meant for the free health care programme . According to reports five people including the store keeper Johnny Paul Koroma, the driver of the district medical officer were detained by the police. The police reportedly  said that Dr. Bum was needed for more questioning  after several investigations conducted adding that those  that would be found  wanting would be charged to court.


 Kono Welcomes Vice President


The Vice President of the Republic of Sierra Leone Alhaji Sam Sumana is reported to have received a rousing welcome from the people of Kono District during his visit to his native home to observe the Eid-ul Fitri celebration with them. The Vice Presidents  decision to observe this  years Eid-ul Fitri celebration in Kono reports say  has been highly appreciated by the Muslim community in that district adding that they viewed  the visit  as getting neared to them.


Trade Minister Praises Koidu Holdings


Local news reports say the Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry Mabinty Daramy on Monday 5th September 2010 showered praises on the executive members of the Koidu Holdings Mining Company. The incident is reported to have taken place during the signing ceremony of the new mining agreement between the Government of Sierra Leone through the Ministry of Mineral Resources. The signing of the agreement reports say  had given the government the opportunity to generate more revenue  for the country.
