EU Approves Le 266 Billion for Sierra Leone


Local tabloid reports say the European Union (EU) has approved a huge grant of 52.2 Million Euros to the Government of Sierra Leone through the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development to consolidate recovery efforts and democratic governance in the country. Reports say the approval of the EU grant was in line and appropriate with the Annual Action Programme of 2010 through the 10th European Development Fund, adding that the main objective of the 2010 Annual Action Programme is to fully support Sierra Leones strategic approach to reduce poverty as set out in the Presidents Agenda for Change.

 

No Salary for Nursing School Workers


News reports monitored state that workers at the College of Medicine and Allied Health Sciences (COMAHS) are complaining of working without pay for months. The workers are said to have gone through the month of Ramadan without receiving their salaries.

 

JICA Vice President Concludes Visit to Sierra Leone


Local tabloid reports have it that the Vice President of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Hashimoto Eiji has ended a two- day visit to Sierra Leone. The purpose of the visit reports say was to inspect on-going JICA projects in Northern Sierra Leone and discuss with government officials and relevant stakeholders in the country on cooperation and future JICA assistance. Mr. Hashimoto Eijii is reported to have met with the Vice President of Sierra Leone, Samuel Sam Sumana at his Tower Hill Office in Freetown where they are reported to have discussed cooperation and successes of JICA implemented projects in Sierra Leone.

 

Armed Robbers attack Grafton Police Barracks


It has been reported that over the weakened armed robbers raided the quarters of one Woman Police Sergeant Tity Coker of Block F14 Grafton Police Barracks,  East of Freetown and made away with a television set, chairs and other valuable items worth millions of  Leones. The police are currently investigating the matter as no suspect has been arrested.

Sierra Leone gets another Cassava Processing Center

It has been reported that the Cassava Value Chain Development Project has again inaugurated a cassava processing center in Sierra Leone bringing the number of processing centers commissioned under the project in this country to six. Reports went on that the new centre is located in Walihun and will help resource poor farmers in that region to process cassava tubers to several products such as gari and foo-foo.

 

Hajj Scribe Warns President Koroma


News reports have it that following the dissolution of all Private Hajj Operators in the country last week by the Government of Sierra Leone, the Sierra Leone Hajj Committee in Freetown has expressed dissatisfaction over the decision. The Assistant Secretary General, Alhaji Musa Conteh  is said to have  warned President Koroma of the dire consequences of his governments action and threatened that Muslims are ever ready to sacrifice anything for the sake of their religion. According to reports the scribe in an open letter to the President noted that government should have afforded the committee and agents the opportunity to see the report written on their activities and for them to respond to it before taking action.
