SLEPA Boss to Inspect Mining Companies


Local tabloid reports say the Executive Chairperson of the Sierra Leone Environment Protection Agency (SLEPA), Madam Jatou Jalloh will this month embark on the sport check on mining companies and different key environments like the Lumley-Aberdeen beach area, Crab Town, Bongo Town and back of Cockerill in the west. The purpose of the inspection reports say is to assess the environmental plans of those areas and how the different mining companies are working to protect the Sierra Leone Environment.


MP Reassures Kono People

 

The Honorable Member of Parliament for Constituency 25 in Kono District, Augustine Bockarie Toto is said to have reassured the people of the district that the APC government of Presidential Koroma will do everything humanely possible to change the deplorable state of the district in terms of road network and other infrastructural developments. Kono District is one of the deprived districts in the country in spite of the fact that it a diamond rich district.


Ten Months Old Baby Drowns in a Bucke
t


A-ten-month old baby boy named Mohamed early this month reportedly drowned in a bucketful of water at Bethel Lane, central Freetown.  According to reports, the mother of the deceased Marian Hassan left the baby unattended in a locked room and went to a neighboring house to watch film. The baby reports say was later discovered dead in a bucket full of water. The mother has since been arrested to help the police custody with the investigation.


CDHR Organizes Human Rights Workshop

 

The Centre for Democracy and Human Rights (CDHR) has organized a two- day workshop on Human Rights for community stakeholders most of them teachers in two chiefdoms in the Bomabli District, Northern Sierra Leone. The theme for the workshop was Breaking the Silence for Girls and Womens Rights. CDHR animator Moses Tarawally is reported to have said that the project was aimed at promoting human rights as well as create awareness for girls and women to know about their own human rights.


ENCISS Concludes Workshop in Makeni

 

Enhancing the Interaction and Interface between Civil Society and the State (ENCISS) has on the 10th September 2010 concluded the Training of Trainers Workshop at the Makeni City Library, Northern Sierra Leone. ENCISS Regional Manager North Sao M. Kinthor is reported to have said that the workshop was an experience sharing to promote development among participants with the goal of improving their lives in their various communities.


Christian Brothers Bailout Under Privileged Children

 

 The Christian Brothers Psychological and Educational Project has on the 14th September 2010 donated assorted school items to about 53 under privileged children drawn from Rokupa, Grafton, Kissy Town and Old Wharf Communities in the east end of Freetown. The head of the organization, Mr. Samuel Lewis Conteh is reported to have said that the focus of Christian Brothers this year is to prepare children for formal education, while he admonished parents and guardians to monitor their children in the use of the items for their intended purpose.


Rotary Club Donates to Military Hospital


The Rotary Club of Wolver Hampton in England has donated a pennon anesthetic machine to the 34 Military Hospital at the Wilberforce Barracks in Freetown. According to reports, patients will now undergo surgical operation easily as the machine helps to ease the pain of surgery. The President of the Rotary Club Sheila John is reported to have said that the donation was part of the clubs commitment to its motto of Service to Humanity.
