Sierra Leone's President claims "Great Achievements" after three years in office

President Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma has described his three years in office as great in terms of his successes over the period. He said he has over the period learnt more, with more experience in running the office of Presidency.

He was speaking in an interview on the Sierra Leone Broadcasting Corporation (SLBC) on Saturday, 18th September 2010 to mark his three years anniversary.

The President noted that since he promised the people of Sierra Leone that he would turn around the country in 36 months, he had not minced his words as there were enough evidences to prove that. He said he has articulated his vision as encapsulated in his Agenda for Change, and as a result, transformed the country to a better state different from where it was three years ago.

According to him, meeting the aspirations of the people has resulted in great achievements in the areas of Agriculture, Health, Energy and Power, Education and Infrastructure.

These areas are of concern and interest to the common man and as a caring president heading a responsible government, I needed to take these concerns and interests into consideration and by the look of things, the people are happy with me and my government, the President asserted.

He described the APC as an action party that listens to the cries of the people, noting that the country is now more open than before, with road constructions all over the country, a 24-hour electricity mostly in the Capital, Freetown, a free health care system that is catering for pregnant, lactating mothers and children under five years, and with an education system that aims at developing the human resource capacity of the country to meet the demands of the 21st Century and the countrys emerging development needs.

Agriculture, he said, is revamping with the governments mechanization and tractorization programmes, as well as the policy of commercialization of agriculture.

All of these are aimed at impacting positively on the ordinary people in their own rights as farmers and rural people, he indicated.

The President recounted the many road constructions being carried out across the country, which he said are aimed at opening up the country and making farm products accessible to central markets.

Like I said, the APC is not a party with intentions but a party of actions. We are an action oriented party that seeks the interest of the common man and woman, President Koroma postulated, and assured of more socio-economic development programmes to come by as he ends his term of office in less than two years from now.

Meanwhile, the country's journalists are frustrated that the President dodged an attempt to face them for open questioning but decided to utilise a closed door interview with the State's Public Broadcaster.
