RCSL Calls on Government to Support War Orphans


The Programme Coordinator of the Rescue Children Sierra Leone Richard Marah is said to have reportedly called on the Government of Sierra Leone, individuals and Non-governmental Organizations (NGOs) to help them provide educational support to seven hundred (700) war orphans of Nieni Chiefdom, Koinadugu District. According to reports, there have been frequent disruptions of childrens schooling due to forced displacement and other factors. The organization reports continue is providing educational support to over seven hundred war orphans, adding that it is in need of more partnership to sustain the support.

 

IG Warns Police Officers


Local tabloids reports say, the newly approved Inspector General of Police, Mr. Francis Allieu  Munu has warned all police officers to work  in line with the rules and regulations governing the force or they would face strict disciplinary action. The IG is reported to have said that he would do everything humanly possible to ensure that discipline is maintained in the force adding that he would bring the force closer to the people to ensure peace and stability.


HFAC Distributes 30 motorcycles to Health  Monitors


The Health for All coalition (HFAC) a Non Governmental Organization has on Thursday 16th September 2010 distributed thirty bicycles to their monitors in the Western Urban. According to reports, the objective was to facilitate the movement of the monitors in order to ensure the implementation of the Free Health Care programme. The Director of HFAC Mr. Charles Mambu is reported to have said that UNICEF donated a total of two hundred and one (201) bicycles to HFAC to distribute to their health monitors country wide.


Morgan Heritage Arrives in Sierra Leone


News reports say the Jamaican entertainment group Morgan Heritage known as great inspirers of lovers will arrived in Sierra Leone from the United States of America (USA) as guests of the Freetown City Council (FCC). According to reports, the show will take place in December 2010 in Freetown. The Public Relations Officer, FCC Mr. Cyril Thomas Mattia is reported to have said that arrangement for the show had already been completed.


SLEMCO To provide 2,500 jobs for Youth


The Sierra Leone Exploration and Mining Company (SLEMCO) will commence bauxite mining in the Port Loko District, Northern Sierra Leone. This mining according to report would provide employment for about 2,500 Sierra Leoneans. SLEMCO reports say would conduct Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) study, as required by the Ministry of Mineral Resources.


Vice President donates to Kono Muslim


The Vice President of the Republic of Sierra Leone Alhaji Sam-Sumana has reportedly donated nine (9) electric generators to all the mosques in Koidu City, bags of rice and cash for Muslims in the district. The donation was made during the celebration of the Eid-ul-Fitr in Koidu City, Eastern Sierra Leone. The donation according to reports showed the concern the APC led government has for Sierra Leoneans irrespective of their religious affiliations.


COMAHS  Gets New Provost

 

News report say, the Dean, Faculty of Clinical Sciences College of Medicine and Allied Health Sciences (COMAHS) Dr. Mbaimba L. Baryoh is now the Acting Provost of the College. The new Acting Provost, reports say has vowed to work diligently in order to take the institution to higher height. The appointment of Dr. Baryoh came following the indictment of the Former Provost by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) reports add.

 

LAWCLA  Opens Constituency Offices in Kenema District

 

News reports have it that the Lawyers Centre for Legal Assistance (LAWCLA) has established five constituency offices in the Kenema District, Eastern Sierra Leone. The Acting National Coordinator of LAWCLA, Festus Robin Taylor is reported to have said that the establishment of the offices was aimed at strengthening the relationship between Members of Parliament of the district and their constituency members.
