Deputy Health Minister Conducts on the Spot Visit
to Connaught Hospital
Local tabloids have it that the Deputy Minister of Health and Sanitation Mohamed D. Koroma has on Tuesday 21st September 2010 conducted an on the spot check at the newly refurbished Annex wards at Cannaught Hospital in Freetown. According to reports, the deputy minister took the venture in order to inspect facilities within the new building. The structure reports say has two separate rooms that are well-equipped with air conditioners , freezer, sitting rooms for visitors with TV set , first class beds, toilet and other facilities. The minister is reported to have commended the medical personnel and other staff for properly maintaining the facilities at the hospital.
St. Edwards Student Forges WASSCE Result

Lyndon Kamara Taylor purporting to be former pupil of the St. Edwards Secondary School in Freetown, has been trapped with a fake West Africa Senior Secondary School Certificate . According to report alleged, Lyndon was trapped while trying to gain admission into Fourah Bay College, University of Sierra Leone. He has reportedly admitted of  forging the result in order to gain admission to the Engineering Faculty. College authorities reports say were impressed with the student’s result but when it was checked on line they came to realize that it was a mere forgery.

Kenema Red Cross Sensitizes TBAs

The Sierra Leone Red Cross Society (SLRCS) Kenema Branch recently held a sensitization meeting with the Traditional Birth Attendants (TBAs) in the Kenema District. The purpose of the meeting reports say was to train TBAs on the benefit of intermittent preventive treatment of malaria during pregnancy.
Price of Soft Drinks Shoots Up
Local tabloids have alleged that the price of soft drinks which was  Le 1,200 has shot up to Le 1,500. According to reports, there is currently a strong disagreement between traders and customer in Freetown as the latter are claiming that they had not received any notification for the recent price increase. The Marketing Service and Public Relation Officer of the Sierra Leone Bottling Company (SLBC) Mr. Michael Yambasu has reportedly confirmed the increment adding that they were forced by the rise in foreign currencies.
UN Country Chief Hails Salone Youths
The Acting Head of the United Nations Office in Sierra Leone has reportedly commended Sierra Leonean youths for their efforts in the country’s peace building. Mr. Berhanemesket Nega applauded the youths for playing a leading role in enhancing peace through out Sierra Leone. According to reports, the UN official made the statement on Tuesday 21st September 2010 on the occasion of the International Day of Peace which was climaxed by the unveiling of the peace pole constructed by the National Youth Coalition (NYC) at the Congo Cross Bridge in Freetown.
Businessman Denied Bail in Court
News reports say Magistrate J.O Wellington of Freetown Magistrate Court No 2 on Tuesday 21st September 2010 ceased the bail of a controversial businessman Mohamed Bob Jalloh and sent him to  remand at Pademba Road Prisons. Report alleged that Mr. Jalloh was arrested on an INTERPOL warrant in Guinea where he was hiding after duping the Ministry of Agriculture close to Le 600 million. According to the particulars of offence, the accused was alleged to have collected money in December 2009 from Skye Bank Sierra Leone Ltd , which was entrusted to him by the Ministry of Agriculture  to purchase five hundred and twenty metric tones of fertilizers knowing same to be false.

Hunter Mistakenly kills Friend

A hunter Abdulai Conteh of Mapargbo Village in the Mambolo Chiefdom ,Kambia District recently killed his friend Musa Kamara in a bush around the Mankankor Village , Lokomassama Chiefdom. According to reports , Musa was mistakenly shot on the chest in his cassava farm. Personnel at the Lungi Police Station are said to be investigating the matter.
Fraudsters Arrested in Bo
Police in Bo City have arrested two people on allegations of fraud. The alleged suspect s are said to have collected money from over 600 youths on the pretext of sending them to Iraq to work . The victims have told police that about Le 600,000 was collected from each of them for registration, medical, police clearance, passport and other expenses Â
