The Bintumani Hotel, a pearl of Sierra Leones tourism has reopened once again for business as a fabulously resplendent place to reside and enjoy the sweets of Freetown. The magnificently well refurbished hotel seats on the hill overlooking the smiling beaches of Aberdeen and the Atlantic Ocean. It was officially re-commissioned yesterday, 22nd September 2010 by the Minister of Tourism and Culture, Hindolo Trye.

The ceremony coincided with the 27th Anniversary of the establishment of the Beijing Urban Construction Group (BUCG), one of Chinas first-class construction companies with the construction of the main Olympic Stadium, the birds nest to its credit.

Minister Trye commended the management and staff of Bintumani Hotel for their relentless effort in transforming the hotel to an even more standardized one that is adding pride to Sierra Leones tourism industry. He noted that the commitment of work as manifested by the splendid edifice of the hotel demonstrates in clear terms the continuous good bilateral relationship between the Peoples Republic of China and Sierra Leone.

The Minister however lamented on the seeming unwillingness of BUCG to invest more in the countrys tourism industry, noting with chagrin that some of the ten years spent on refurbishing the Bintumani Hotel could have been used to construct another hotel, restaurant or any other tourism facility as a way of promoting investment in the tourism sector. For him, the Bintumani Hotel is structurally adequate and only required minor rehabilitation, pointing out that funds used to further upgrade it could have been used for investment in other related areas.

He used the opportunity to call on the new management to consider seriously the employment of more Sierra Leoneans in senior positions of the hotel and also appealed for love for another within the employ of the hotel. Mr. Trye on behalf government also appealed to the BUCG to assist in the general infrastructural development objective of the country as espoused in the Presidents Agenda for Change. He congratulated the Chinese Group on their 27th Anniversary noting that the group must have gone through a lot of challenges on their way to their present peak in China and indeed the world as a construction company of outstanding performance.

The Chinese Ambassador to Sierra Leone, H.E. Qiu Shaofang expressed his delight for the achievement of his compatriots in furthering the Sino-Sierra Leone relationship and also that the ceremony coincided with the Chinese Traditional Festival. He described the Bintumani edifice as "an eye-catching structure" and a source of pride for both countries. He stated that the BUCG investment in the hotel is a sign of the strengthened socio-economic relationship existing between the two countries which he said will grow from strength to strength. He invited all and sundry with particular emphasis on tourists around the world to seize the advantage of coming to Sierra Leone and to stay in the Bintumani Hotel.

The Chinese Ambassador noted the state-of-the-art facilities the hotel now has which he said will give additional comfort to guests and add more to the splendor and candour of the beautiful and serene environment of Aberdeen, where the hotel is located.

The rehabilitation of the hotel, Ambassador Shaofang noted, has not only added beauty to Freetown, but has also created employment opportunities for the youths of the country. He applauded President Koroma for sustaining the bilateral relationship between the two countries which he said was established 39 years ago. He applauded the efforts of the management and staff of the hotel for the relentless support they have been giving to the Chinese Embassy.

The General Manager of BUCG-International, Duosong Li noted that the refurbishment of the hotel was aimed upgrading the hotel to its finest state in order to continue providing its usual unrivalled five star hotel services to its customers. He disclosed that the hotel now accommodations that meet the needs of both business and leisure guests. The BUCG he noted is among the Top 10 Construction Companies in China with expertise in real estate development and management, and the production and capital operation among others. He assured that the company will be always ready to help Sierra Leone in her national development as it may relate to infrastructure.
