Kenya Airways Holds Successful AGM in Nairobi


Local tabloid reports say Kenya Airways has held a successful Annual General Meeting (AGM) past Thursday 23rd September 2010 at Nairobi, Kenya. During the meeting the annual report and account of the airways were said to have been presented to its shareholders and approved. According to reports, over 20 journalists from Africa witnessed the AGM. The Chairman of the Board Evans Mwaniki and the Group Managing Director, Dr. Titus Naikuni are said to have declared a dividend of 1 Kenya shilling per share to all its 75,000 shareholders.


Illegal Shipping of Toxic Waste to Africa


The International Police Organization (Interpol) has informed the Government of Sierra Leone that tons of electronic waste from equipment containing toxic materials are said to have been shipped from Scotland to be dumped in Africa. According to report, the toxic waste is contained in equipment such as computers, refrigerators, microwaves and other household utensils. A criminal network is said to be engaged in illegal shipping of this toxic waste.


Armed Robbers Hit Kissy Dockyard


Local news says armed robbers have again stepped up their violent activities against peaceful citizens putting them in perpetual fear.The latest report of armed robbery was at Kissy Dockyard, east of Freetown where robbers are said to have attacked a house close to the Ferry Police Post and carted away property worth millions of Leones.  One of the victims is reported to have said that the robbers forcefully broke and entered into the house putting everybody under gun point. The community people are said to have called on the police to intensify their night patrols in the area.


60 years Old Commits Suicide in Makeni


Osman S Bah of 36 Misiri Street, Makeni in Northern Sierra Leone has on Saturday 25th September 2010 committed suicide near his residence. According to reports, the 60 years old man hung himself in a mango tree and later died.  The deceased reports say left behind two children and a letter in his pocket with the inscription.“To whom it may concern” The reason for committing suicide according to police sources was as a result of jealousy noting that his wife, Esther Jaffa, was in the habit of spending her time with men. Police investigation is said to be in progress.

 

Deputy Health Minister Supports Blood Donation

 

The Deputy Minister of Health and Sanitation Mohamed D Koroma reports say was in support of the voluntary blood donation noting that it strengthens the free health care scheme in the Country .Mr. Koroma is reported to have said that it was important to donate blood voluntarily to support the free health care scheme especially in treating emergency cases of pregnant women, children under the age of five and lactating mothers. He called on healthy youths to respond positively to the campaign for voluntary blood donation.


Rape Suspect Escapes from Police Custody


Abu Bakar Sesay who was accused of raping a-33- year old woman on 29th August 2010 at Mamba Ridge  Kissy in Freetown ,is said to  have escaped from police custody on 19th September 2010 The said suspect was said to have been detained  at  the Ross Road Police Station where he was being investigated for the said offence. According to reports, suspect who was in open detention is said to have escaped due to an electric power failure at the station.


Shankerdas & Sons Constructs Link Bridge in Koya


The Director of G .Shankerdas and Sons who is also the Consul of Japan, Dr. Kishore Shankerdas has constructed a bridge for the people of Magafty Village and Sherbro Town in the Western Rural District. The bridge which links the two Villages is located along a shabby and rough road from Fufu Water Junction in Newton to Ribbi in the Moyamba District.The villages, reports say serve as important route to farmers, school children and road travelers.
