NRA Sets to hit Le 236bn Target


The Acting Director General Income Tax at the National Revenue Authority (NRA) has reportedly revealed that his institution is set to collect on behalf government a target sum of Le 236 Billion for this year. Mr. Ibrahim Sorie Kamara reportedly informed that the collection of domestic revenue had been very difficult but following a number of reforms and the adoption of a strategic plan of action, there is now a way forward. According to him the actual money collected so far is Le 199,299 Million. For the Customs Department, he said it targeted Le 349, 659 Million and collected Le 219, 881 Million while the GST target was Le 249,992 Million and has so far collected Le 183,966 Million.


5 RSLAF Officers Promoted


Colonel Daniel Yapo Sesay and Colonel John A. Jah-Tucker have been promoted to the top ranks of Brigadier General while Lieutenant Colonel MB Massaquoi, Lt. Col. D.T.O. Talava and Lt. Col. U.A. Turay have been promoted to the ranks of full Colonels. The official decorating ceremony for the new officers is said to have been held last Thursday, at the Myohaung Officers Mess at Wilberforce Barracks in Freetown. All of the promoted officers are expected to be posted to strategic areas within the army.


Man, 60 impregnates Girl, 10


A- 60- year old farmer,  Pa Abub Bakarr Kabia in Port Loko Town, Northern Sierra Leone, is currently standing trial in the Makeni  Magistrate Court presided over by Magistrate Ganda, accused of impregnating a 10- year old school girl. Reports allege that both the police and human rights activists are closely monitoring the trial to ensure justice at the end of the day.


SLPP Supporters Caution Party Executives


Local tabloids say, supporters of the main opposition party, the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) have cautioned the party’s executive against any form of manipulation during the national delegates’ conference slated for March next year. According to reports, the supporters warned executive members not to side any of the contenders and should give chance to the delegates to elect the flag bearer for the 2012 elections. Party members and supporters reports say would want a candidate with the right personality and charisma to contest and win the 2012 elections.


Murder Suspect Remanded


A murder suspect, Mohamed P. Conteh who is alleged to have killed one Buhlhu at Ghana Playing Field Kissy, Old Road recently, appeared at the Freetown Magistrate Court presided by  Magistrate J.O. Wellington. The Magistrate is said to have duplicitously ceased his bail and sent him to the Pademba Road Maximum Prison because of the gravity of the matter.


Rape Suspect Escapes From Police Net


Reports say a 30- year-old rape suspect, Abu Bakarr Sesay of Upper Mamba Ridge, Kissy, Freetown has escaped from police cells at the Ross Road Police Station in Freetown. According to reports, the suspect was handed over to one Sergeant A .A. Conteh of the Family Support Unit (FSU) for him to proffer charges against the suspect. However, Sergeant Conteh according to reports left the suspect at the station to buy stationery when there was a sudden blackout during which the suspect allegedly escaped.

 

Guma Valley Exposes Government


The General Manager of Guma Valley Water Company, Ibrahin Wilson reports say, has exposed government institutions for failing to honor their water rates. He attributed this to the parastatal’s inability to pay off their tax obligation to the National Revenue Authority (NRA) among others. He is claimed to have divulged that Guma Valley Water Company generates a maximum of six hundred and sixty one million Leones monthly and is bound to expend to one billion and ninety two million Leones within the same time frame.


Martin Luther King, Dr. Julius Garvey DNAs traced to Salone


Local tabloids have reported that a DNA test has confirmed that Martin Luther King III, Son of late Civil Rights Leader, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Dr. Julius Garvey, son of Marcus Garvey have roots to the Mende people of Sierra Leone. Their forefathers are said to have lived in Sierra Leone hundreds of years before they were forcefully taken to the United States as slaves. The duo were among several other African- Americans whose DNA results were revealed at a special dinner session last Sunday night at the just concluded ‘Africa Policy forum-A vision for the 21st Century’ at Marriot Margue Hotel in Atlanta, Georgai, USA. King and Garvey say they would be in Sierra Leone to complete other formalities to get their citizenships.
