Freetown, September 28th 2010 - Standard Chartered Bank has formally handed over a newly constructed 3 classroom block complex, to the Government and the Quarry Community, as part of our Corporate Social Responsibility in Sierra Leone. Being ‘Here for good’ through our sustainable approach to business and society, we are constantly challenging ourselves as to how we can contribute to our markets in a distinctive way. Hence our move towards a longer-term community strategy, which is sustainable and measurable in terms of benefit to the community.
The classroom block complex which comprises of the Head Teacher’s office, a store, 3 big classrooms and a 3 compartment toilet is a Le350million initiative aimed at fulfilling our desire to assist our local communities; to help alleviate poverty and to truly demonstrate we are ‘Here for good’ in Sierra Leone.

The Bank will like to thank the Ministry of Lands Housing & Country Planning, The Ministry of Education Youth & Sports and the Freetown City Council, who were major stakeholders in the project, aimed at ensuring children in the Quarry Community not only have a right to education but also have a right to a conducive learning environment, to foster academic excellence.
