15 Sent to Pademba Road
Local tabloids say, police attached to the Kissy Police Division last Thursday launched massive raids within their area of command in order to reduce crime and the fear of crime among community members. The police operations team reports say was able to arrest 15 suspects for various offences, including one armed robber at Cola Tree within the Calaba Town Community. According to reports, suspects were refused bail on their first appearance in Freetown Magistrate Court No. 1 presided over by Magistrate Sandy. Police are reported to say that they will continue with similar raids on the outskirts of Kissy that allegedly serve as hideout for common criminals.
Government Donates to Annie Walsh School
The Annie Walsh Memoriam Secondary School in Freetown has reportedly received one hundred and fifty-seven text books of various subjects as donation from the Government of Sierra Leone in furtherance of enhancing quality education in schools. The school librarian, Mr. James A. C Massally is said to have assured the government that he would do all he could to ensure the proper use of the books.
HANCI-SL Donates Le 100 million to pupils
Reports have alleged that over hundred school children in the Tambakha Chiefdom, Koinadugu District in the north have received the sum of One hundred million leones in sponsorship from ‘Every Child in School” Project. The project is said to be funded by a British National, Tom Dannat to help implement Help a Needy Child International-Sierra Leone (HANCI-SL) Projects in the country. Bendugu, Komoya, SOS, Kuku Community Primary School and the Siminbuwa Junior Secondary School were the beneficiaries of the educational materials. Teachers in the various schools also reportedly received allowances in the tune of One hundred million Leones.
Man 60, Rapes Girl 10
Reports have alleged that a 60-year-old Abdul Turay raped a ten-year-old Class Four Pupil of the Mahera Primary School, Lungi in the Port Loko District. According to reports, the accused invited the girl into his house on the pretext that he was going to send her on an errand. When the pupil entered into the room to answer to Abdul’s call, the latter is said to have closed the door and forced the victim into having an affair with her. Police are investigating the matter.
17 Punches Send Salone Boxer Home
Sierra Leone’s Cuba-based boxer, Daniel Lassayo has reportedly been sent home after receiving seventeen punches from Indian counterpart, Kumar Manoj in the on going Commonwealth Games in Asia’s largest and most populous country. In both round one and two of the competition, Daniel received a total of 17 punches as against one from his opponent which forced the referee to stop the match.
Grafton Camp Harbors Armed Robbers
The Secretary General of the Kossoh Town Community in the Western Rural District has reportedly said that armed robbers and other notorious criminals are hibernating in the Grafton Camp. Madam Ballay Mansaray claimed that armed robberies taking place in Kossoh Town, Hastings and many other places are being done by robbers hibernating at Grafton.
FCC Intensifies Revenue Collection
Reports have disclosed that officials of the Freetown City Council (FCC) on Tuesday night took to the streets of Freetown on massive revenue collect drive from night sellers. FCC’s Public Relations Officer, Cyril Mattia reportedly informed that they have intensified their operation at night because most traders have chosen to sell at night in order to evade tax.
ACC Embarks on Regional Tour
It has been reportedly revealed that a team from the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) led by the newly appointed commissioner, Mr. Joseph Kamara recently embarked on a regional tour that took them to Kenema, Bo and Makeni Cities. The purpose of the tour was for the commissioner to explain ACC’s mandate to the people in order to know how the commission operates. During the tour, the ACC boss reportedly assured the people of the commission’s intention to deploy officials in all the districts charged with the responsibility to disseminate the commission’s message to the grass roots.
