The Muloma Women’s Development Association (MUWODA), a local Non-Governmental Organization seeking to promote the welfare of women and youths on Tuesday 5th October 2010 engaged political part youths, the civil society and religious leaders on the country’s political ,ethnic and regional future which the organization has realized posing challenges portending major set back to development at all levels.

Addressing participants, chairman of the occasion, Mr. Foday Musa who is also MUWODA member said the meeting was designed to help prepare the minds of Sierra Leonean youths ahead of the 2012 elections, and to also map out a way forward for everlasting peace in the country while continuing to reflect on the causes of the 11 years brutal war.

Foday Musa noted that after the 2007 elections there has being several incidents of political unrest in all corners of this country which do not show any sign of political tolerance, adding that many Sierra Leoneans have lost their national identity for party allegiance.  He said for women to be involved in politics and development, the process should be devoid of violence and intimidation. He urged Sierra Leoneans to be law abiding and to love one another.

Giving an overview of MUWODA the program manager Jeneba Nyallay said the organisation’s focus is on development, is a female led organization that provides skills training for youths and agricultural opportunities for women among others. She said during the war in Sierra Leone, many women were subjected to rape and victimization, as youths were misled to perpetuate violence against fellow citizens which her organization viewed as very negative developments. “We as an association are working hard to reverse this awkward trend,” she informed her audience. She said under the Women and Youth Advocacy for Peace-Sierra Leone (WYAP/SL) project, Muloma Women’s Development Association has conducted same consultative meetings in Bo, Makeni and Freetown to preach peace and political tolerance as we approach the 2012 electioneering process.

To conclude, she encouraged Sierra Leoneans, especially youths to conduct themselves and not to allow politicians to misuse and divide them for their selfish needs.

Present at the consultative meeting was the PPRC Mediation Officer Victor Hugo Kamara who commended MUWODA for taking the bold step in ensuring that peace is maintained in that party of the country.
