More than two thousand children, including teenage mothers are said to have benefited from the initiatives.

50 years Old Man Commits Suicide

A retrenched Mount Everest Security guard whose name was given as Tamba Bayoh past Friday 8th October, 2010 reportedly committed suicide at the back of his Allen Town residence. According to reports the 50 year-old-man’s action might not be unconnected with his unexplained retirement from the service of the Agency, though reports say he had reached retirement age. Reports continue that the deceased had on several occasions chased his retirement benefits to foot university bill for his child as well as other domestic commitments in vain.  The lack of financial capability to address the above issues reportedly made him a dejected man, resulting in the taking of his life by hanging at the back of his residence.

As the Small Holder Commercialization Programme (SCP) gathers momentum, the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Food Security is again set to benefit from a US$ 1.5 windfall from the Australian Government in support of Sierra Leone’s Peace Building Initiative in the agricultural sector. The money funded through the United Nations will basically support the country’s National Sustainable Agriculture Development Plan (NSADA) which gave birth to SCP.

152 New Lassa Fever Cases Recorded

The Ministry of Health and Sanitation has reportedly recorded 152 cases of Lassa fever in the country this year alone. The head of the ministry’s Disease Surveillance Unit, Dr. Foday Dafea is reported to have said that the highest number of Lassa fever cases was recorded in the Kenema District.  He is also reported as saying that additional 21 people in Makeni, Northern Sierra Leone have come in contact with the virus but they have not yet developed the disease.  Reports say the rodents that cause Lassa fever might have migrated from the forest regions of the east to the savannah grass land of the north.
