Change is in the air as MTV and Zain Africa (acquired by Bharti Airtel in 2010) lock down Banky W, Fally Ipupa, Teargas and Daddy Owen to deliver a series of spine-tingling live performances at the upcoming MTV Africa Music Awards with Zain (MAMA). The four artists are the first performers to be announced for the 2010 edition of the Awards, which take place on Saturday 11 December 2010 at the Eko EXPO Hall, Lagos, Nigeria.

There are a lot of music awards ceremonies in Africa, however The MTV Africa Music Awards (MAMAs) is as big as the EMA’s or VMA’s for Africa. The inaugural MTV Africa Music Awards (MAMA) in 2008 was sponsored by Zain as a key pillar in our evolving music strategy to give consumers, everyday access to music, platforms to express their creativity, and give Zain opportunities to empower African music talent.

MAMAs is arguably the only respected and trusted music awards ceremony on the continent. The awards ceremony is associated with MTV which is arguably the biggest music brand in the world. This association puts a stamp of authority, credibility & conformity on this event. That is why Zain and now Airtel is proud to be associated with it for the 3rd year now.

An exciting and interactive trivia SMS promotion called ‘Zain Change is in the Air’ has already started to signify the launch of MAMA’s 2010. Consumers simply need to register by sending their first or nick name to the MAMA’s shortcode 6262 and off they go. They can also win by voting for their favorite 2010 artist once the nominations are announced.

10 fantastic prizes like Le500,000 & modems will be won weekly, plus tickets with all expenses paid trips, plus pocket money for the Road to MAMA’s event in Tanzania and the MAMA’s event itself in Nigeria up for grabs.

Once the nominees are announced consumers can begin voting for their favourite artist in the different categories still using the shortcode 6262.

Our customers can still continue to play the SMS trivia as well as vote for their choice for a chance to win from: The weekly draw where 10 fabulous prizes are up for grabs; The Mid draw – All expense paid trip to Tanzania for the Road to MAMA’s; The grand draw – All expense paid trip to the big event it self in Lagos, Nigeria

• Customer sends an SMS with their nominee for different categories to 6262
• For the weekly prize (include cash prizes & modems) : The 10 people will win prizes from a random electric draw
• For the grand & Mid prize: a random selection of will be done (Mid prize is a trip to Tanzania Road To MAMAs event.
