The All Peoples Congress (APC) led Government Spokesman and Minister of Information and Communication Alhaji Ibrahim Ben Kargbo has accepted defeat in a recent war of words by surrendering himself to the Leader of the Peoples Movement for Democratic Change (PMDC), Lawyer Charles Francis Margai by publicly apologizing to the latter for having attacked his personality over several public media. This apology, Awareness Times has been reliably informed, came after President Ernest Bai Koroma had a peacemaking dinner with the two men at State Lodge on Wednesday 13th October 2010 following which dinner the three men held undisclosed talks behind closed doors.
The APC strongman made his public apology during the usual Government weekly press briefings held yesterday Thursday 14th October 2010 at the Ministry of Information and Communication 8th Floor Youyi Building in Freetown.
Addressing newsmen at the briefing, Minister I.B. Kargbo apologized to Mr. Margai and further noted that the PMDC Leader has been his life-long and intimate friend for a very long period ago, adding that they both went through their schooling in the same district of Bo. According to Alhaji Kargbo, he is a proud pupil of the UCC School in Bo and Mr. Margai is a product of the Christ the King’s College CKC in BO.

Kargbo further told journalists that the recent heated exchanges between the two men, that had seen Margai give a two-weeks ultimatum to Kargbo to apologise or face legal consequences, will not affect their long built friendship, adding that they will continue to maintain their friendship as long as they live. The APC mouthpiece also informed newsmen that although he has already offered his sincere apologies to Mr. Margai before attending the press briefing, he wanted the world to also know publicly that he had begged Mr. Margai for forgiveness.
I.B. Kargbo assured that himself and Mr. Margai have already settled their scuffles between them and have also ironed out all outstanding matters between them. Additionally, IB Kargbo assured journalists that he will be coming up with a Press Release on Monday 18th October 2010 in which he will again be publicly apologizing, this time on documented signed paper.
When contacted on phone as to whether he accepted or denied to accept the apology, the fiery and erudite Lawyer Charles Margai wasted no time to state that Minister Kargbo did apologize to him the night before and he has since accepted the apology in good faith.
“As a matured and very senior politician, I have accepted his apology especially when the fact remains that I.B. Kargbo is a human being and human beings are bound to make mistakes and correct them,” Margai stated, adding that he was not surprised to have heard that the minister have also made the apology as a public gesture. However, the PMDC strongman, who was on his way to Koinadugu whilst granting the interview, assured Awareness Times that he intended to “make no political capital out of the apology which I have accepted in good faith”.
