Alpha Wurie Rocks Kono
Local tabloids report that SLPP party stakeholders and supporters in the district of Kono past Friday flocked to the party’s office in Koidu City to welcome and listen to the erstwhile Education Minister Dr. Alpha T Wurie who was there to canvas delegates for the SLPP flag bearer contest in March next year. Reports say the atmosphere was awesome with enthusiastic party supporters chanting slogans in support of Dr. Wurie.
8 Years Old Girl Raped in Kenema
Print media report says a thirty-five-year-old man in the Kuyagbama Section, Kenema City Eastern Sierra Leone have had an affair with an eight year old girl. According to reports, the perpetrator whose name was only given as Lansana on Tuesday 12th October 2010 sent the unsuspecting girl into his room for a shirt and then followed her and forced her into an affair. At present, Lansana is said to be on his heels while the girl is slowly responding to medical treatment at the Kenema Government Hospital.
Man Stabs Wife and Commits Suicide
Report from Kenema reveals that one Abubakarr who resides in Daru Junction in the Kailahun District had stabbed to death his wife and subsequently committed suicide. According to report, Abubakarr who is said to have committed the act out of jealousy is said to have caught his wife stark naked in bed with her boy friend. This situation caused him to stab his wife on the stomach and afterward stabbed himself to death.
Traditional Healer Certifies 550
Monitored newspaper reports say President of the Traditional Healers Association ,Sullayman Kabba has certified 550 members including ceremonial chiefs at a ceremony held at the union’s head quarters, off Bai Burreh Road Calaba Town in Freetown. The event reports say was also used to strategize the way forward for the organization and to appoint representatives for the Tombo Community.
Salone Hailed At ICT Contab in Mexico
Local tabloid reports state that Sierra Leone was lavishly applauded in the city of Guadalajara, Mexico where the Geneva based International Telecommunication Union, an arm of the United Nations held its 18th Session to address issues relating to telecommunication development worldwide and to elect a new executive. Reports say the Sierra Leone Minister of Information and Communication Alhaji Ibrahim Ben Kargbo who led the two-man delegation dilated on the landing of the Fiber Submarine for which Sierra Leone was applauded.
First Lady Visits Malaysia
Newspaper reports monitored have revealed that the First Lady of the Republic of Siera Leone, Mrs. Sia Nyama Koroma flown to Malaysia to attend First Ladies’ Summit. According to reports the summit was hosted in her honor at the Maa Building in Kuala Lumpur and is said to have been personally welcomed to Malaysia by His Royal Highness Dato ‘ya’ acob Bin Tunku Tan Sri Abdullah. During her welcome dinner, a group of business executives were said to have expressed their desire to invest in the private sector in Sierra Leone.
MRU Shares Forest Management Experiences
Newspaper reports have revealed that the four Countries that form the Mano River Union, Ivory Coast, Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone are presently holding a day’s seminar on Trans-boundary Forest Management initiative at the MRU Secretariat, Lightfoot Boston Street in Freetown. The object of the meeting is reportedly to continue to work on plans and mechanisms geared towards promoting and sustaining regional ecosystem and biodiversity.
Wealth Builders Defence Team Dodge Court Sitting
The defence team of the beleaguered Wealth Builders’ CEO, Peter Ayilla Johnson was reportedly conspicuously absent in Monday’s court hearing of their client. Lawyers Musa Plous Sesay, Sahid Mohamed Sesay AKA Baba, SAJ Jamiru and Enes Kargbo were inexplicably absent in defence of the Nigerian businessman. Magistrate Wellington of Court No. 2 asked Peter Ayilla Johnson for his lawyers only for the accused to say that ‘they are around.’ The Magistrate gave a stern warning to the accused to producer his defence at the next adjournment or he would be forced to draw the file from the prosecutors and give ruling. The magistrate said the next adjournment date of Monday 25th October 2010 will be the last adjournment of proceedings. He was remanded at Pademba Road.
