Japanese Students Donates Books to Library Board


A Ph.D Japanese student of the Hiroshima University in Japan and a research fellow at the Fourah Bay College (FBC), University of Sierra Leone has donated books to three institutions in Freetown. These include the Sierra Leone Library Board, National Museum and FBC .The donation  reports say was funded by the Hiroshima University Alumni Association in Japan Yujiro Tokumitu is reported as saying that he hoped the books would be an opportunity for Sierra Leoneans to understand Hiroshima and the tragedy of atomic bombing.


Big Boost for Farmers in Bo District


The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Food Security has distributed about 100 bags of hybrid  Chinese rice and 1000 bags of fertilizers among 500 registered farmers in Bo District, Southern Sierra Leone. The distribution was in response to the bilateral agreement between the Government of Sierra Leone and China to promote agriculture and improve the lives of farmers. Sumaila Masssaquoi of the agriculture ministry is reported as saying that the upland farming was not successful this year and urged the farmers to focus their attention on swamp rice farming.


ERSG Praises Pikin Bizness


The Executive Representative of the Secretary General and Head of the  United Nations Peace Building Mission in Sierra Leone (UNIPSL) Mr. Michael Schulenburg has praised the children of Sierra Leone for providing humanitarian assistance to the children of Haiti. Mr. Michael is said to have made this statement on 18th October 2010 at his Kabenda Hotel Office in Freetown while receiving the sum of two thousand three hundred and seventy five thousand United States Dollars from Linda Bangura and Abu Bakar Jalloh from Pikin Bizness, a local non- governmental organization working to wards the welfare of children.


FSSG Teachers evicted from Staff Quarters


Senior teachers occupying staff quarters in the school compound had been evicted from the quarters following a court order in a matter brought by the board of trustees of the School. According to reports , the teachers had been served a notice to quit at the end  of June but they refused to do so. This reports say forced the board to take legal action to evict them.

 

Health Minister Gives Ultimatum


The Deputy Minister of Health and Sanitation Mohamed D Koroma has given a 24 hour ultimatum to the Director of Drugs and Medical supplies Mr. Bassie Turay to submit a report on the large scale discrepancies and conflicting lists of procurement, storage and distribution of drugs to various centers for the  past months under review or face disciplinary action. According to reports the minister order came as a result of the unsatisfactory manner in which health personnel handle the affairs of the ministry.


UMC Church at War


The United Methodist Church (UMC)is battling with the community people of Mansantigie Village, Off Pa Loko in Waterloo Rural District over a 533 acre parcel of land .According to reports, the UMC Mission claimed to have acquired the embattled piece since 1939 from one Mr. Mango Brown and had built structures on it  while the community  people claimed that the land was grabbed by members of the UMC Mission. The police  are said to be looking into the matter.


NACSA Organizes  Skills Training Workshop


The National Commission for Social Action (NACSA)  and its development partner the European Union have organized a 5 day training workshop for workers in the border areas and other security personnel. Participants who had been drawn  from the police, Immigration, Office of National Security and the National Revenue Authority would be trained on the necessary skill that would enable that them curb illegal immigration into Sierra Leone.  The Deputy Commissioner of NACSA Charles Rogers urged participants to put into practice what they would have learnt. The workshop which commenced on 18th October is expected to end on 22nd October 2010.


Bush Cow Kills Two

 

A bush cow has attacked and killed one Fatu Johnson and Sheku Abu a school pupil of the KDC School and injuring a young girl called Hawa Sheku. According to reports, this incident took place on 18th October 2010 at Largo Jasawabu in the Nongowa Chiefdom ,Kenema District The animal reports say burst into the hut and killed the two victims in the farms. Hawa Sheku is said to be responding to treatment at the hospital.
