Health Workers Threaten Strike Action


Junior health workers at the various government health facilities around the country have reportedly threatened to embark on a nationwide strike action if they are not included in the free health care salary and allowance packages designed for senior health workers few months ago. According to reports, the junior workers, comprise nursing aids, messengers, porters, cloak roam attendants, cleaners and drivers among others. It is reportedly feared  that if the strike action is staged,  it will paralyze the hospitals throughout the country. The Secretary General of the Sierra Leone Health Service Workers’ Association, Ansu Kalokoh is said to have organized the junior workers ahead of the planned strike action.


Gaddafi Boosts Salone Pilgrims


News reports have it that the Libyan Ambassador to the Republic of Sierra Leone, HE  Dr. Muhammad Al-hiraree Abdul Salaam, has presented the sum of five hundred thousand United States Dollars to the President Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma in fulfillment of an earlier appeal made by the president to the Libyan leader on behalf of the less fortunate Muslims that want to perform the pilgrimage to Mecca who cannot afford to pay for the trip from Sierra Leone to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. President Koroma is said to be overwhelmed by the gesture which he described as timely.


Armed Robbers Attack Tengbeh Town


Armed robbers have on Wednesday 27th October 2010 attacked a house at Upper Tengbeh Town and took away cell phones, money and other valuable properties. According to reports, the inmates had gone to bed at night when six men armed with cutlasses and other dangerous implements broke into their house and robbed them of their cell phones, money and other valuable properties. The community is said to have expressed dissatisfaction and frustration over the spate of armed robbery and have therefore called on the police for security.


Woman Stabs Husband to Death


Local reports say a petty trader identified as Isha Kamara of Newton Village in the Western Rural District on Tuesday 26th October, 2010 stabbed her husband to death. According to reports, Isha Kamara, a lactating mother killed Abdulai Bah out of jealousy. Isha reports say had been accusing her husband of foul play in their love  affair and of being polygamous .She is said to be in police custody helping with the  investigation while the remains of Abdulai Bah is at the Connaught Hospital awaiting postmortem examination.


Road Accident Kills 9 years Old Boy


Thomas Kamara, aged 9 was hit to death by a Toyota Jeep with Registration No. AEO 791 driven by one Isha Massaquoi . According to reports, the victim was selling fruits past Friday when he was knocked down by the said vehicle at Newton on the Waterloo/ Masiaka highway. Irate youths in the community are reported to have mobbed the driver of the vehicle following the occurrence of the incident. The remains of the nine years old boy have been taken to the Connaught Hospital mortuary in Freetown.


Weapons Discovered in Kambia District


About 121 assorted, damaged and rusty weapons have reportedly been discovered by pupils of the Baptist Primary School Kassiri-Samu Chiefdom in the Kambia District. The weapons are said to have been collected by the police and brought to Kambia Police Station. According to reports, the Scrapped weapons with DDR tags were said to have been buried by GTZ who were based at the school conducting DDR training of ex-combatants. The damaged weapons include G3, AK 47, AK48 and SLRS.


Five Arrested for Stealing Bumbuna Fuel


Local news reports say one Salieu Turay and four others have been arrested and  detained by the police in Tonkolili for stealing thirty two five gallons of fuel from the Bumbuna hydro electricity. The incident is said to have occurred on 14th October 2010 at a village called Kapeth in the Tonkolili District. The police reports say apprehended the five suspects on board a vehicle who were trying to escape with the fuel. Investigation is said to be in progress.

 

Police Spokesman Arrests Notorious Conman


News reports say the spokesman of the Sierra Leone Police Force (SLP) Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Ibrahim Samura on Monday 25th October, 2010 arrested a notorious conman by the name of James Tucker along Pademba Road in Freetown. James Tucker who is said to have escaped from police custody was facing two-count charges for the offence of receiving money by false pretence and unlawful possession of fake foreign currency contrary to the criminal laws of Sierra Leone. The suspect is said to have defrauded one Tusinami Robert who resides in the United States of America the sum of $5,000.
