Panic at Guinea Border

Residents at the Guinea-Sierra Leone border are said to be in a state of panic over the presence of 400 OSD officers undergoing military training at Samu Chiefdom in the Kambia District, Northern Sierra Leone. According to reports, the officers are being trained to monitor the security situation in Sierra Leone.  Guineans living in Sierra Leone along the border are said to be in perpetual fear as a result of a misleading report given by a media institution that Sierra Leoneans are planning to attack Guinea. The Government of Sierra Leone is said to have debunked the allegation.


Sierra Leoneans Welcome Ambassador Yambasu in Russia


Sierra Leonean residents in the Soviet Union have reportedly welcomed the newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, Mr. John Yambasu. The ambassador has informed the Soviet Union that his experience in politics coupled with his days as a student in that country would help him strengthen and enhance the bilateral relationship between the two countries. Mr. Yambasu is said to have promised to project the aims and objectives of President Koroma in order to contribute towards development in Sierra Leone.


Chinese Nationals Freed on Murder Case


Justice Samuel Ademusu of High Court No. 2 on Thursday 28th October 2010 discharged two Chinese Nationals, Li Yung Jun and Gad Go Li for lack of evidence in an alleged murder case. According to reports, the duo were alleged to have committed murder, attempted murder, robbery with aggravation and wounding one Mr. Alfred Conteh now deceased. It was revealed that the accused since 2003 had been at the Pademba Road Prisons on remand. The Judge  after due consideration was said to have  left with no alternative but to discharge the  matter for lack of evidence, even though the state prosecutor continued to keep to his argument.


Heavy Storm Destroys School Building

 

Reports have it that a heavy storm has recently destroyed the Islamic Call Society Junior Secondary School in Mattru Jong, Bonthe District including several houses and plantations .The school principal, Mr. Joseph A Kamara is said to have called on the  community people and other kind hearted  Sierra Leoneans to contribute in their own little ways to reconstruct the building. Most of the pupils are said to be presently out of school due to its dilapidated condition.


Armed Robbers Attack Bo Education Office

 

Reports have alleged that unknown armed men last Saturday night attacked the Office of the Ministry of Education Youth and Sports in Bo City. The robbers are said to have put the watchman under gun point and carted away valuable items from the office of the Deputy Director of Education for Bo District, Mr. S.B.M Swaray. Police are said to be investigating the matter.

 

Mad Man Faces Mob Justice in Kenema


A Group of people in Kenema, Eastern Sierra Leone have reportedly beaten one Thomas Bayoh who is suspected to be mad.  According to reports, Thomas is said to have been accused of being a member of a group of cannibals in the district. The victim is said to be currently in critical condition at the Kenema Government Hospital. Police are seriously investigating the matter.


Thousands of Dollars Missing


Workers of the Sierra National Airlines (SNA) are reportedly calling on the APC Government and the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) to intervene and investigate the Sierra Leone Airports Authority (SLAA) with regards funds meant for payment of salaries and running cost of the administration. According to reports, the workers have alleged that during the transfer of ground handling activity to SLAA, a Memorandum Of Understanding (MOU) was signed between the two institutions. SNA is said to have alleged that an amount was supposed to be transferred to their institution by SLAA to run their activities. The SLAA reports say have failed to fulfill that condition.

 

Pujehun Benefit from UNICEF


The United Nations Children Fund (UNICEF) has reportedly offered a brass band to the Education Committee School in Pujehun under the Girl Child Education Program. This donation was made during a week-long girl education programme in the district under the theme “Invest in girl’s education: Make our schools free from sexual exploitation.”  According to reports, the Government of Sierra Leone in collaboration with UNICEF is now working on modalities that would encourage girls to go to school in large numbers.
