In Sierra Leone, 352 Students Benefit from LMC Scholarships in Marampa

In furtherance of their corporate social responsibility, London Mining Company (LMC) on 23rd October, 2010 dished out scholarships to 352 students in the Marampa Chiefdom, Port Loko District. The ceremony which was hosted at the Lunsar Community hall attracted prominent personalities across the district. The scholarship, in the tune of Le 98.4 million is to cover tuition for the beneficiaries in the various schools in that chiefdom.


Presenting the package on London Mining behalf, Lawyer Olga Solomon informed that the scholarships were to cover the 2010/11 academic year. “It covers a year’s tuition and allowance to enable parents and guardians buy books and uniforms,” she disclosed, adding that the company was ready to improve the lives of the people in the country especially in the areas of health, environment and education. “This is just the beginning, wait and see when our company starts full operations come 2011,”


Student Secretary in the Education Ministry, Milton Mansaray Pearce expressed gratitude to London Mining for their good partnership in the development of the country. He called on beneficiaries and their parents to make good use of the packages.


The Director of Sports who chaired the occasion, Bai Kabia also lauded the efforts of the company in rendering invaluable assistance to the chiefdom in particular and the country generally. “We recognize the numerous assistances by the company to this community, including electricity to the villages.”


Many other speakers joined the previous ones in thanking London Mining, including Paramount Chief Shepa and Hon. A.O Daramy.

 

Each of the 182 pupils attending primary schools are to receive Le 210,000.00, while the secondary category of 154 pupils are to receive the sum of Le 350,000.00 each. 18 pupils in the third category drawn from pre-schools/orphanage are to receive Le 200,000.00 each.
