No Water, no Light at Connaught Hospital

 

It has been disclosed that the recently repaired school clinic at Connaught Hospital in Freetown is running without water and electricity facilities. According to reports, patients as well as students and their tutors are finding it difficult to do without these facilities. The public is said to have called on the government to enhance these facilities.


A Prominent Journalist Dies


Local news reports say the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists had lost another prominent member, Tamba Sokena who passed away last weekend in Freetown. He was a staff of African Champion Newspaper before joining the New Vision. He later left the New Vision to serve the media unit of the office of the First Lady. Sokena reports say was very helpful, respectful and obedient among his fellow journalists and the general public. 


NATCOM to Hold Consumer Parliament in Kenema


Reports have it that, the National Telecommunications Commission (NATCOM), would  hold its next “consumer Parliament’’ in Kenema City in the Eastern Region of Sierra Leone.. The event which is slated for 13th 
November 2010 would give the opportunity to subscribers to meet with mobile operators and internet service providers face-to-face. At least 300 parliamentarians are expected to participate in that event.

 

Right Hand Vehicles to be Banned

 

The President of the Sierra Leone Motor Drivers and General Transport Workers Union (MDGTWU), Alhaji Abu Bakarr Fofana has reportedly urged the government to ban the right-hand drive mini buses in the Country. According to reports, most accidents are  caused by right-hand drive vehicles. Abu Bakar Fofana is said to have appealed that in order to save lives it would  be prudent for government to ban right hand drive in order to minimize accidents.


Assemblies of God Mission Boosts Kenema


Reports have it that the Assemblies of God Mission Sierra Leone recently administered a one- week free medical treatment to residents in Kenema District. According to reports, this is the very first time the mission is conducting that kind of service and is expected to continue annually in subsequent years.  Reports  say, the supplied drugs and assorted items to the beneficiaries worth millions of Leones. According to reports, all the referral and peripheral health units were given  the opportunity to offer the services to residents in that districts.


World Vision calls on Stakeholders


World Vision Sierra Leone has reportedly called on stakeholders in the Bonthe District Southern Sierra Leone to unite and implement projects that would benefit residents. According to the World Vision Base Manager, Alfred Moses in the Bonthe District, stakeholders and development agencies should always consult each other to ensure that all projects are enhanced. Reports say, since 2004, World Vision has provided many service delivery programs for people in various sectors in the district


UN Gets Resource Center at FBC


Local tabloids say, the United Nations (UN) has owned a new Resource Centre at Fourah Bay College, University of Sierra Leone. The resource center is intended to capture the minds of students so that they could have access to computers with internets facilities, books on their different areas of studies and more knowledge on UN activities. The UN Executive Representative of UN Secretary General (ERSG), Mr. Michael Von Schulenburg is said to have appealed to students of FBC to be involved into UN activities.


ACC Trains Local Councils


The Anti -Corruption Commission (ACC)had  in its first phase of regional training started a-two day training of administrators and councilors in Bombali ,Tonkolili and Koinadugu Districts in the north and Kono District in the east. The head of Policy and Ethics Unit of the ACC Mr. Nabilla Musa Kamara is reported as saying that the training was about fighting corruption using the prevention approach adding that the National Anti- Corruption Strategy identified inability to understand, formulate and implement government  policies are major corruption issues in local councils.
