Methodist Church Supports Farmers in Bonthe District

 

A Christian based non governmental organization, Methodist Church Sierra Leone is reportedly supporting farmers with basic techniques and inputs for value addition and agricultural commercialization in the Bonthe District. The aim of this venture is to make Sierra Leoneans enjoy sustainable social, economic and cultural development through quality partnerships.


YMCA Distributes Start-Up Kits to Beneficiaries  

 

Reports have it that the Young Men Christian Association (YMCA) over the weekend distributed start-up kits to youths from the Kroo-Bay and Dwarzack communities. The youths are reported to have completed skills training programme sponsored by European Union. More than 100 beneficiaries are said to have received their start-up kits at the YWCA Old Hall Brookfields.  

 

Lassa Fever Kills 3 in Bombali District

 

Medical officials in Freetown have reportedly disclosed that Lassa fever has claimed the lives of three people including a South African Engineer in Bombali District, Northern Sierra Leone. The Head of Disease Prevention and Control in the Ministry of Health and Sanitation, Dr. Amara Jambai, has reportedly informed that there is an active infection rate of Lassa fever in that district adding that the situation is very strange as health workers in that area are not trained to identify and treat the disease.

 

Big Welcome for Kadi Sesay


Supporters of one of the aspirants in the flagbearer contest of the main opposition Sierra Leone People Party (SLPP), Dr. Kadi Sesay, have, on Thursday 11th November 2010, welcomed her back home from the USA, where she had just ended a two-week tour. The supporters reportedly drawn from Port Loko, Kissy and Waterloo thronged the airport vicinity to give a tumultuous welcome to their candidate.


Le100 Million Bail Slammed on Mohamed Bob Jalloh

 

The case between the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Food Security and Mohamed Bob Jalloh which was before Magistrate Court No 2 has been committed to the High Court for hearing. The accused was reportedly charged with obtaining money by false pretences, fraudulent conversion, and causing money to be paid by false pretences; all contrary to the laws of Sierra Leone. Bail was granted the accused in the sum of Le100 million and ordered not to leave the local jurisdiction of Sierra Leone without making a formal application to the High Court.

 

Central Freetown Needs Parking Areas

 

Newspaper reports say residents within the Freetown Municipality especially school going pupils and workers have expressed their dissatisfaction over the way and manner in which traffic congestion affects the daily running of their businesses and careers. Traffic congestion in central Freetown can only be addressed by the provision of parking areas to prevent double parking along most of the capitals major roads. Citizens have reportedly suggested the site of the former City Hall to be made a multi level parking facility.
