Female prisoners to be relocated


Reports have disclosed that female prisoners at the Pademba Road Maximum Prisons are going to be relocated to the Special Court for Sierra Leone .30 female prisoners are going to be accommodated in 18 cells as the first batch. Reports say the Sierra Leone Maximum Prison is almost overcrowded and this move will help the female prisoners to have free movement in the precinct of the Special Court Prison.


Defence raises objections in Allieu Sesays trial


Defence lawyer N .D Tejan-Cole last Monday reportedly raised series of objections to Counts 54, 55, 56.and 57against his clients Alieu Sesay and Gloria Gabisiwe in the ongoing corruption trial in the Freetown High Court. According to reports, the defence lawyer told the presiding magistrate, Ademusu, that the counts lack specificity and were therefore ambiguous. The prosecution team also challenged the defence that the four counts were clear and unambiguous. Matter was adjourned.


7 armed robbers sent to prison


Reports have it that Magistrate Davis Cole of Freetown Magistrate Court No. 7 recently rejected bail for seven alleged armed robbers who were arraigned before him on robbery charges. According to the particulars of offence, the complainants Alex Bull and Moses Bangura, on 31st October 2010, armed with guns, broke into business centers and catered away three hundred mobile phones and physical cash. Matter was reportedly adjourned.


New boss for NRA


Reports have alleged that Sierra Leone President Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma will soon name another head to replace the current Acting Commissioner General of the National Revenue Authority (NRA), Haja Kallah Kamara. Haja was appointed by President Koroma as the former commissioner of NRA, Alieu Sesay was indicted by the Anti Corruption Commission. It has been rumoured that Haja is going to be replaced by another person.


MP provides medical help


A team of doctors from the Heart Doctors Organization in Greece has completed a five-day medical treatment for people in Manowo Village, Gbonkolenkeh Chiefdom, Tonkolili District. According to reports, this programme was facilitated by Honourable David Bai Conteh of APC representing constituency 63. According to the MP the reason for embarking on such programme for his people is to fulfill one of his campaign promises. He promised to extend similar gesture to other parts of the District.


NPPA staff to down tools


Local news reports say the decision by the President Ernest Bai Koroma to appoint a Nigerian Consultant to act as Executive Director of the National Public Procurement Authority (NPPA) following the sacking of Alfred Kandeh has angered senior staff of the Authority. According to reports, the staff would soon embark on a sit down strike if the President does not revisit the decision. The newly appointed Nigeria Executive Director reports say is busy transferring senor officials in the Authority to other departments.


Former commando asks for forgiveness


Fambul Tok International over the weekend reconciled the people of Kamara Chiefdom in the Kono District. The reconciliation reports say focused on Mr. Mohamed Savage, former soldier of the Republic of Sierra Leone who in 1998 became rebel commander in the Eastern District of Kono In his testimony, Savage said he became a commander in the jungle when lots of atrocities were committed. He is said to have claimed responsibility for all atrocities that were committed since he was in control of some parts of Kono District. The ex-rebel reports say has called on the people of Kamara Chiefdom to forgive him for what had happened during the civil war.
