Alhaji Abdul Rahman Kabbah, popularly known as Nafaya Kabbah, who passed away peacefully on 24th November 2010 at his Elk Street residence in Freetown, has been laid to rest at the Kissy Road Cemetery, following a well attended funeral ceremony held at the Madingo Mosque, Mountain Cut, Freetown.

The burial ceremony on Thursday 25th November 2010 attracted several dignitaries from all walks of life and they include former President of the Republic of Sierra Leone Alhaji Ahmad Tejan Kabbah, erstwhile Minister of Education Science and Technology who doubles as one of the flagbearer aspirants of the SLPP Dr. Alpha Tejan Wurie, former Minister of Mines and Mineral Resources Alhaji Swarray Deen, SLPP flagbearer aspirant Osman Boie Kamara, Alhaji Kanja Sesay, SLPP National Chairman John Oponjo Benjamin, SLPP flagbearer aspirant Momodu Koroma, Publisher Awareness Times Newspaper Sylvia Olayinka Blyden, General Manager African Minerals Moseray Fadika, chiefs of the Mandingoes, Fullahs and Susus, members of the Fullah Town Jammah, United Council of Imams, Fourah Bay Jammah, pupils of Ahymadiyya and Muslim Congress schools, plus several others.

Final prayers at the Madingo Mosque

At the residence of the deceased, SLPP National Imam Sheik Fomba described the late man as a strong member of the party, noting that he dedicated most of his time supporting the SLPP.

He pointed out that Nafaya Kabbah was once a national trustee member of the party, adding that he was also very instrumental in ensuring the progress of indigenous business.

Sheik Fomba called on family members to accept the occurrence as the will of God, whilst noting that the death of Nafaya is irreparable to the SLPP.

Former President Kabbah joined hundreds of mourners to pay last respect to Nafaya Kabbah

The late Alhaji Abdul Rahman Kabbah was the first Deputy Madingo Tribal Headman in the Western Area under the late Alhaji Muctarr Kallay. This was prior to his appointment as Madingo Tribal Headman. He was a popular businessman who started his trade in the diamond area of Kono District in the early seventies. He later travelled to Freetown where he engaged in retail business. The late man succeeded in establishing the popularly known “Nafaya Supermarket” at Rawdon Street in Freetown which was later burnt down by RUF/AFRC rebels in 1997.

He met his lovely first wife whilst serving as a police officer in the Senegalese Police Force in Senegal and they were blessed with many children.

The late Alhaji Kabba would be missed not only by his family members but also the SLPP and his Madingo tribesmen both in and out of Sierra Leone.

May his soul rest in perfect peace.
