City Council Police are Looters


Local tabloids have alleged that the Freetown City Council (FCC) Police are not only in the habit of harassing people especially petty traders but also intimidating and looting their properties.  According to reports, the police recently vandalized and looted the store of one Mr. Kelfala Mansaray and injured a shop attendant, Ansumana Bangura, around Kissy Road Cemetery in Freetown. Many citizens are reportedly questioning the recruitment procedures of the metropolitan police as a good number of them continue to behave out of the set police regulations. The public is said to have urged the government to investigate the police officers who are said to have been involved in the unprofessional act.


Le500,000 Fines for Diamba Smokers


Magistrate Steven Conteh of Freetown Magistrate Court No 1 has reportedly fined Umaru Koroma, Junior Neale, Ibrahim Sesay, Abubakarr Turay and Mohamed Turay the sum of five hundred thousand Leones each or five months imprisonment. According to the particulars of offence, the accused were on the 16th November arrested by police between Circular Road and St John with 18 parcels of Diamba and some offensive weapons. The accused were charged on two counts of unlawful possession and carrying offensive weapons.


Usman Boie Storms Bo City


Report have it that hundreds of supporters and executive members of the Sierra Leone Peoples Party  last Friday welcomed one of the leading contenders of the SLPP flagbearship, Alhaji Osman Boie Kamara. According to reports, after meeting with Muslims at the Hanga Town Mosque for Friday prayers Alhaji Boie Kamara toured the entire Bo City. He reportedly assured the people that he will turn Freetown green and will take power from the APC come 2012.


New Computers for Kenema City Council


Reports have disclosed that the Kenema City Council recently received 25 computers from a Sierra Leonean, Mr. Iscandri living in Texas, United States. The donation was made by the Kenema District Descendants Association (KDDA) on behalf of their member Mr. Iscandri. The promise of the donation was made during the visit of the Kenema City Mayor Brima Kargbo to the USA.

CKC Ready for Ahmadiyya


Local tabloids have it that an inter-secondary school football and volley ball competition  has gained  momentum in Bo City as the Christ the King College and the Ahmadiyya Muslim Secondary School are expected to meet on Monday for the semi-finals. Tension among students for the semi-finals is said to be building up as supporters of both teams are expecting victory. The match which will be played at the Bo Coronation Field has been described by football analysts as a wait and see situation.

 

World Vision Helps Children in Need


World Vision Sierra Leone has distributed assorted items to children in the Jimmi Bagbo Chiefdom. The items include rubber buckets, metal spoons, rubber plates, mattresses and mosquito bed nets among others. The distribution is said to have taken place at the World Vision Areas Development Programme Office in Jimmi Town. The World Vision Bagbo Areas Development Programme Manager, Sheku Mambu in reported as saying that the distributed items are gifts from World Vision Rapid Response Programme to the children of that chiefdom. The children are said to have jubilated on receiving the items thanking World Vision for being of help to them


Teachers Take Government to Task


The Sierra Leone Teachers Union has expressed its dissatisfaction over the failure of the government to include all what was earlier agreed with the union in the 2011 budget. The Secretary General, Davidson Kuyateh is reported as saying that no definite position has been taken by the government in the 2011 budget in terms of salary and allowances for teachers adding that the budget is far below their anticipation. He called on the government to improve on teachers salary as agreed upon during the negotiation held with them few months ago.


Curfew Imposed in Moyamba


A curfew was imposed on Wednesday night in Moyamba after boys suspected to be school pupils of the Ferguson Memorial Secondary School and the St. Michaels Secondary School stormed the military camp with stones in hunt for Tiama School boys. According to the Sierra Leone Broadcasting Corporation (SLBC), the pupils of the two secondary schools were engaged in a fight with the Tiama school boys whom their vehicle was damaged and some of their colleagues and teachers were wounded. The fight is said to have emanated during a football league in the Kori Chiefdom Moyamba District.
