Airtel subscribers in Sierra Leone are now more anxious than ever to participate in the company’s MAMA show promo slated for Lagos, the Nigerian commercial capital. This latest momentum came following announcements that several renowned world musicians will be part of the show.
Subscribers are busy sending their names by SMS to short code 6262 in order to be qualified to grace the 2010 MTV African Music Award dubbed ‘MAMA.’
Four more popular artists were recently included in the list of musicians to take part in the Lagos show; they include American Hip Hop Superstar Rick Ross, Kenya’s P-Unit, South Africa’s Jozi and Nigeria’s Wande Coal.
Earlier, Airtel announced that DJ Arafat from Ivory Coast, 2 Face Idibia from Nigeria, Daddy Owen from Kenya, Banky W from Nigeria, Fally Ipupa from DR Congo, Teargas from South Africa and Cabo Snoop from Angola will all take part in the show to make the December 11 event an exciting musical jamboree full of pomp and pageantry.
It has been disclosed that the participation of the US Rapper Rick Ross in the Airtel MAMA show will mark his first visit to Africa. Many Airtel subscribers have told the Awareness Times that they will continue to text their names to the Airtel short code until they are qualified to attend the show.
An upcoming rapper residing at Soja Tong in Freetown, Alie Kamara called on Airtel to ensure transparency in the selection of lucky subscribers to grace the show as they have always done. “I was actually not too serious about this promotion when it started but with the mention of the name of my best artist Rick Ross, I have never stopped to text my name to Airtel,” he explained.
Kamara said he is looking forward to hugging Rick Ross in Lagos, as according to him, “I will surely grab this chance.”
Other subscribers commended Airtel for what they described as a wonderful opportunity.
It has been learnt that the show would be broadcast on MTV based DSTV Channel 322, and other MTV performers around the world and partner TV stations starting 18th December 2010.
The MTV Africa Musical Award 2010 is sponsored by Airtel in collaboration with Master Card. Arik Air is the official partner of the MTV Africa award with Airtel.
