Pademba Road Prison a Death Trap


Local tabloids have reported that the Pademba Maximum Prison in Freetown is currently over crowded with inadequate basic facilities for the inmates. According to reports, the prison blocks, built since 1941 were to cater for only 314 prisoners, as opposed to over one thousand inmates currently housed in cells.  Certain basic and essential facilities such as water and hygiene conditions are utterly in bad shape at the prisons.


RUFP Storm Kono


Local tabloids say members of the Revolutionary United Front Party (RUFP) led by their party Chairman, Eldred Collins are currently in Koidu Town with plans to tour the entire Kono District. According to reports, their visit is to sensitize members on a violence-free 2012 general elections. The party has earlier paid a similar visit to Kailahun and will be replicated to other places in the country.


Man beaten to death in Bo District


Police are reportedly investigating the alleged murder of one Lamin Musa of Yegala Village thirteen miles away from Jimmy Bagbo in the Bo District. According to reports, the incident took place on Tuesday 13th November, 2010 when one Samba Kamara was alleged to have masterminded it by labeling the deceased a thief. The deceased was as a result beaten to death. Nine people have already been reportedly arrested and are helping the police in their investigation.


Paramount Chief Deborah Inaugurated


The Paramount Chief of Jama Kowa Chiefdom, Moyamba District Madam Deborah Subie Quee IV has traditionally been inaugurated by the Provincial Secretary South, George G. Banya. According to reports, the ceremony was graced by government ministers, members of parliaments, paramount chiefs and other prominent members in society. The paramount chief is reported to have appealed to his contenders to unite with her in order to develop the chiefdom.


Police Brutalize Disable


Reports have alleged that police officers recently brutalized members of the disabled group in their attempt to meet with President Ernest Koroma and his Vice at the Miatta Conference Hall in Freetown. The disabled were in at the gates on the celebration of the World Aids Day on December 1st, 2010. According to reports, as the president was leaving with his entourage, the disabled joyously gathered to pay homage to him and his vice. Police however, brutally prevented them with kicks, beating and dragging them off way. The police were stopped by the intervention of some civilians and soldiers for what they described as violating the rights of the disable.


A Child Needs Help


Clive Porter, a two-month-old baby was delivered with an enlarged head, hydrocephalus. Philanthropist Dr. Adonis Aboud has reportedly launched an appeal to save the life of the baby. Pikin Bizness Administrator Miss. Laura Williams says $2,000 dollars is needed to cover the surgery and medications in Accra, Ghana. The general public is hereby urged to donate at 62 Wilkinson Road in Freetown.


Blind School Pupils frown at Detractors


Blind school pupils in Freetown have reportedly expressed their dissatisfaction over what they described as “Malicious and Unfounded Lies’ against their Head Teacher. According to reports, it was alleged by some quarters of the public that the head teacher was involved in the misappropriation of fund for which the pupils were so perturbed with such an ugly development.


Traders Form Agriculture Unit


Traders at Malama Thomas Street in Freetown have formed a new agricultural group called the Rogbingbin Agricultural Development Organization. According to reports their membership is up to a thousand all ready to go to farm and cultivate to boost agro business. The group is said to have acquired large arable lands in Koya and Kabala in the Northern Province.
