What Happens to the Zainab Bangura’s Portraits?

It will be recalled that just as was predicted by Awareness Times a few weeks back, Madam Zainab Hawa Bangura has been replaced as Foreign Minister by the precise name we had stated she would be replaced with; which is J.B. Dauda. This, alongside our outing of the Tamba Borbor Sawyer scenario shows we are usually on top of Sierra Leone’s intelligence gathering media scene.

However, the removal of Madam Zainab Bangura whilst it has brought about huge joy to the Foreign Office, has left a dilemma on the hands of ministry’s staff over what to do with all the framed portraits of Madam Zainab Bangura currently littering all of Sierra Leone’s diplomatic missions around the world in an unprecedented manner that has caused much media and parliamentary umbrage against the move to place the then Foreign Minister’s portraits in our missions.

One school of thought suggests that the portraits be shipped back to Freetown from where they would be re-deployed to be placed at the entrance to all the hospitals and clinics in the country seeing she is no longer Foreign Minister but now Health & Sanitation Minister.

Amongst this school of thought is a suggestion that not all the photos should be used in hospitals but some of the photos should be reserved to be placed at the entrance of all the country’s Garbage dumps since Garbage Dumps are part of areas covered by the Sanitation Ministry.

So, it is proposed that some of the Zainab Bangura portraits which would be returned from our Foreign Missions could be strategically placed at Bomeh in Kingtom in Western Freetown and along New Road Bomeh in the East and other such ‘stinking’ waste processing units all over Sierra Leone.

It is also believed that should she be re-deployed again to let’s say, perhaps Ministry of Education, the portraits would be moved again to be placed in all the schools entrances since the Minister is fascinated with her photo appearing in areas her ministry covers.

However, it is not clear what would happen to the dozens and dozens of framed portraits should she ever be made to suffer the relegation of being named as ‘Minister of Political and Public Affairs’ which is basically a sinecure position like where poor Alpha Khan has been dumped as his political graveyard.

“Since some of the portraits are going to be placed at the entrance of Bomeh, if she ever becomes appointed to a sinecure Cabinet position with no physical location for relocating her portraits, we will just take the rest of the photos and relocate them to join up with the ones already proudly located at the Garbage Dump,” opined one Thomas Clarkson in Freetown.

In my view, Mr. Thomas Clarkson might have a point there. The framed portraits either which way will all be now coming down off the walls of the country’s diplomatic missions and eventually might all be ending up at Bomeh Garbage Dump where some might say they all rightfully belong.
