Mambu Doubts Koroma’s Projects


The Director of Civil Society Movement and Health for All Coalition says he was not too sure whether President Ernest Koroma was going to complete his infrastructural projects by 2011. Charles Mambu said despite some of the projects making good progress, he was doubtful whether they would be completed within the time frame set by the APC Government . He cited the construction of the hillside by-pass road and the peninsula road among others as projects that may not meet their stated deadline for completion.


Advocacy Workshop for Women Starts in Freetown


An international non- governmental organization OXFAM and lead implementing agency has collaborated  with other implementing partners with funding from the European Union to organize a three day workshop for women in Kono, Koinadugu and Freetown on “advocacy and networking for women’s empowerment training of trainers agenda” at the Coopi Conference Hall Freetown. According to reports some of the NGO’s participating at the workshop includes Coopi, Concern Worldwide, FAWE, and SLYEO. OXFAM Country Director; Emmanuel Gaima said advocacy was a critical element of the program as it has a lot of silent observations watching what seeds to grow.


TE Donates Cabinets to Schools


Transformation Education a non-profit making Christian- based organization operating under the aegis of World Hope International has donated cabinets, steel donors and windows to 12 pilot primary schools within the Freetown municipality. Handing over the items to the beneficiary schools the director of Transformation Education; American- born Gewen Smith informed that the donation was made possible courtesy of a grant from the Davis Project for Peace.


APC Urges Police


The National Secretary General of the ruling All People’s Congress Party over the weekend called on the police to do their job professionally irrespective of which political party one belongs. Mr. Victor Bockarie Foh lauded the Inspector General of Police Francis Mumu for what he referred to as his proactive move of ensuring that the by- election in Kono goes on peacefully. He said the police should not hesitate to carryout their mandate of maintaining law and order.


COMAHS Swears- in New Doctors


College of Medicine and Allied Health Sciences (COMAHS) University of Sierra Leone over the weekend swore in one hundred and twenty qualified doctors, pharmacists, nurses and medical laboratory technicians at a colorful ceremony at the college campus Kossoh Town. The Dean of Faculty of Clinical Sciences Professor Hector G Morgan said the training of medical professionals ranked high in the University of Sierra Leone adding that they were proud to present various medical practitioners who are well trained and are ready to serve the Country.


ARMS Foundation Donates to School


Government Secondary Technical School Congo Cross in Freetown was the proud recipient of school furniture from assistance in the form of Rehabilitation and Maintenance of schools of local non- governmental organization.Receiving the items on behalf of the school and pupils, Senior Teacher and Head of Department Mrs Rita Arthur Jones thanked the donors for the timely gesture and noted that if pupils are not adequately accommodated they will not concentrate in their academic pursuit.  She appealed to donors for more help and admonished the pupils to be responsible and careful the way they handle school property.


President Koroma Blasts


President Koroma has angrily reacted to the current political impasse that has stifled progress in Lokomasama Chiefdom Port Loko District. The entire chiefdom is said to have gone ungovernable after the last paramount chieftaincy election which left activities to a standstill. The President is said to have blamed the two members of parliament Benneh Bangure and Kombo Kamara and Presidential Affairs Minister Alpha Kanu for failing to arbitrate genuinely in the matter.
