A Police Inspector attached to the Central Police Division has apprehended two notorious criminals who fled the central prisons on Sunday 5th December 2010.
Inspector Samuel Kamara intercepted and arrested Mohamed Conteh and Junior Koroma in a minibus that was heading for Waterloo on Tuesday 7th December 2010 at about 6pm.
Inspector Kamara told the Awareness Times that he was on his way home after work when the two fugitives flagged down the vehicle at a place called Poyo Bar, Calabatown, far east of Freetown.
“They quickly entered the vehicle and rushed their ways to the back sits,” he explained, whilst explaining that he had known the two criminals for a very long time now.
“As a trained officer, I started strategizing within myself as to which method of arrest I will use so that both criminals will not escape again,” he said, adding: “On arrival at a place called Fomex, I ordered the driver to stop the vehicle when I saw an OSD Officer called Peter Koroma. I quickly alerted him and he wasted no time to join me in arresting the criminals”.
The arrested fugitives were whisked to the Calaba Town Police Station for safe custody.
They were later transferred to the Headquarters of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for further investigation.
Head of Media and Communications in the Sierra Leone Police, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Ibrahim Samura confirmed to the Awareness Times yesterday evening that four of the escapees have been arrested in various locations across the country.
