Tonkolili Bitter Over Cabinet Reshuffle


The recent cabinet reshuffle by President Koroma seems to have angered indigenes of Tonkolili District. According to reports, residents were expecting the President to have given them at least four senior cabinet positions and two or more deputy Ministers. According to one Amadu Bangura, the district deserves a better treatment from the President considering the overwhelming support they still give him and the APC. He said they are totally dissatisfied with the cabinet reshuffle and feel neglected over the refusal to appoint to senior cabinet positions indigenes of Tonkolili.


Salone Attends Gulf Africa Investment Confab


Sierra Leone Ambassador to Saudi Arabia and the Gulf States, Ambassador Wusu B Munu and Information Attaché, Alhaji MB Jalloh on Sunday 5th December 2010 attended the Gulf –Africa Investment Conference in Riyadh. The conference organized by the Council for Saudi Chambers of Commerce and Industry (CSCCI) and the Gulf Research Centre was held under the patronage of King Abdullah Bin Addulaziz Al-Saud.The purpose of the conference was to address the issues related to communication and infrastructure, energy, agriculture, trade, miming and natural resources and  the importance of promoting finical instruments between Africa and the Gulf States.


Drivers Union Strike in Bo, Kenema


The Sierra Leone Motor Drivers and Transport Workers Union are said to have staged a one-day strike action in Bo and Kenema Cities on 3rd December 2010. The strike action is said to have disrupted the normal flow of traffic between the two cities, causing a lot of embarrassment for commuters in that part of the country. According to reports, the strike action was as a result of police and traffic warden harassment of drivers at check points.


Darkness Engulfs Allen Town


Thieves are said to have invaded the Allen Town Community, dismantled and bundled away their distribution lines that provide electricity for them. According to reports the community was enjoying electricity on Wednesday 8th December 2010 when the light suddenly went off and the whole area engulfed in total darkness. It was only the following morning that residents came to know that their National Power Authority (NPA) cables have been stolen. The thieves reports say demonstrated their skills by removing the live wire when the light was on without regard to the inherent danger posed by the live wires.


Teachers to Receive Le 100,000 Bonus


News reports say all teachers on government payroll in Sierra Leone are to receive Le 100,000 as bonus at the end of December. The Sierra Leone Teachers Union (SLTU) is said to have met on Tuesday 7th December with heads of schools in the Western Area in order to explain to them about the equilibrium with government on the conditions of services for teachers in the country. The Deputy Secretary General of the Union Mr. Morris Conteh told heads of schools that government has shown some commitment to the Union’s call for improving the terms and conditions of service for teachers and has therefore agreed to give every teacher on government pay roll a one off payment of Le 100,000 as bonus whilst waiting for the reform package . The amount would be paid together with the December 2010 salaries.

ierra Leone’s 50th Independence Anniversary Celebrations.The Guest House which is located at Spur Road is presently open to the public with 12 well furnished rooms ready for visitors as work continues in other areas to complete the 42 rooms lodge .The proprietor of Derrycombe Lodge, Ibrahim Yusuf said it is part of his effort to contribute to the country’s tourism industry by investing in infrastructure.


DRIM Hails German Leprosy Relief Program


The Disability Right Movement (DRIM) has praised the activities of the German Leprosy Relief Association for its enormous assistance to improve on the status and welfare of disabled persons in the country. The Executive Director of the Disability Right Movement Vandi Adonice Konneh said the German Leprosy Relief Association (GLRA) is assisting disabled persons in various areas especially in skill training. He said the GLRA is currently supporting disabled people with socio, economic relief assistance in Bo, Moyamba and the Western Area


Police Assures Citizens of Peaceful X-Mas


The Director of Operations of the Sierra Leone Police Force has assured Sierra Leoneans of a peaceful Christmas. Mr. Alsheik Kamara said that the festive season will be well policed as they have put in place certain measures to make sure that Sierra Leoneans enjoy a peaceful Christmas. He said they are currently training 300 armed police officers to man the city.
