Freetown City Council in Financial Crisis
Reports have alleged that , the Freetown City Council is currently faced with financial constraints. Reports further alleged that the insolvency has caused the Management to borrow an overdraft from the Sierra Leone Commercial Bank to the tune of billions of Leones. Payment of workers and management of projects implementation have become very difficult as the council has no money to sponsor these activities.
Nigeria Osusu Master Disappears with Le 50M
The Manager of the Spring Field Micro Finance, Sierra Leone Limited Mr. Alex Echedugu is reported to have fled away with over 50 Million Leones. According to reports, Sierra Leonean businessmen and women as well foreign nationals had invested their savings in this microfinance Institution situated at 51 Upper Brook Street in freetown. According to reports the disappearance of Mr. Alex Echedugu a born Nigerian has left fear and trauma in the lives of most business people especially the victims.
APRM Raps Parliament
The African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) has reportedly presented the draft country self assesement report and the national programme of Action to members of the Sierra Leone parliament. According to reports, the assessment is comprehensive plan of action develop to address the governance postal identified in the poverty strategy system of Sierra Leone. The Head of APRM Dr. Osman Gbla said that the report and action plan in focused to implement the planned activities with a view to improve the governance structure and socio economic development of the country. He appealed to the MPs to enact the report for government implementation.
Osman Boie storms Krootown Road
Reports have it that one of SLPP flagbearers Osman Boie Kamara over the weekend stormed the Krootown Road Community in freetown admist Mammoth Crowd. The Chairlady of the Kroo Bay Community, Salamatu Gombu Kamara reportedly disclosed that, they were tired with the current regime and with Osman Boie Kamara they will flinch their supports for the SLPP. Several other community members disclosed that Osu was a stainless candidate and was the fittest.
Prison Officers to Demo For Showers
Local tabloids have alleged that Prison Headquarter at New England Ville will soon stage a protest march to register their frustration over Vice President decision to relieve the Head of Prison, Mr. Moses Showers of his duty. According to reports, Mr. Showers had made a land mark in making the Sierra Leone Prison an icon. According to reports alleged, it was under his regime that the prison started receiving accolade from neighbouring prisons dept in the sub region like the Nigeria, Ghana Liberia.
1st Presential workshop hosted in freetown
The president of the Republic of Sierra Leone and his cabinet Minister as well as member of the corps and International Communities on last Wednesday held a one day 1st Presidential workshop on Global Fund grants in Sierra Leone. The Workshop was reportedly organized by the country coordinating mechanism of the Global Fund Sierra Leone in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Sanitation with support from the German BACKUP initiative (GTZ) at the Njala Venue Lumley Beach in freetown. President Koroma reportedly thanked Global funds for contributing immensely to the country socio-economic developments.
Police Blame Judiciary
The Sierra Leone Police have squarely blamed the judiciary for the high crime rate and lack of conviction, despite hundreds of cases referred to courts by the Police. The Assistant Inspector General of Police, Alsheik Kamara is reported as saying that the judiciary was to blame for the presence of hand care criminals among peaceful people. He said the courts are quick to grant bail to accused persons. Thus compounding problems already at hand. He said the police, ensure that they charge armed robber to court but the court are in the habit of endlessly adjourning such cases until the accused either escapes or the complainant gets fed up.
NRA to be dragged to court
Following what observers described as illegal dismissal of some ten (10) Non Tax Revenue workers of the National Revenue Authority (NRA) some of the aggrieved dismissed prisons are said to have decided to take legal action against the Authority. According to reports, the affected workers will drag the NRA to court on grounds of illegal dismissal. The ten (10) dismissed workers are said to be from the south east of the country.
