Passengers Angry With Royal Air Maroc


Passengers who traveled with Royal Air Maroc on diverse dates including pilgrims have threatened to take legal action against the airline for failing to deliver their luggages on time. Some of these passengers came to join their families and relations to celebrate the festive seasons. The passengers are said to have stormed the Airline office in Freetown on 13th December 2010 demanding their luggages. They hare reportedly called on the government to intervene as their patience was running out.


SLCB Accumulates Le 46 bn Shareholders Fund


The Managing Director of the Sierra Leone Commercial Bank (SLCB) Christian Bishop Deigh has stated that the SLCB has a shareholders fund in excess of Forty Six Billion Leone (Le 46bn). The MD reflected that the SLCB started with paid up capital of Two Hundred and Fifty Thousand Leones. (Le 250,000) provided by the government as sole shareholders in 1973, which as a result of the implementation of fruitful management  techniques has transformed the bank and has now made it the bank with the largest share of deposits in the market today.


Windfall for Shenge Disaster Victims Families


Families of the victims of the boat disaster that occurred last year between Tombo and Shenge will benefit from goodies from the Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP) New York Chapter. The benefit will come in the form of scholarships for three years for the victims school attending children. The Chairman of the SLPP New York Chapter Mr. Mohamed Bangura who made the disclosure is reported as saying that following the boat disaster last year that claimed over 200 lives, they decided to make it a mini project and undertook lots of fund raising activities. He said the yield from the fund raisers is what he has come to town with to translate into direct benefits for the victims families. 15 victims children will be awarded scholarships for 3 academic years for a start.



No Resident Magistrate in Kamakwie


The Local Unit Commander of the Kamakwie Police Division Supt. Tamba A Kargbo has expressed concern over the lack of a resident magistrate in the area. He said most of the cases in Kamakwie are taken to Makeni for trial which he said is making the job very challenging. He maintained that the absence of a resident magistrate court in that part of the country is hampering the dispensation of justice as some of the complainants find it difficult to travel to Makeni.


Armed Robbers Attack Okada Rider


Two armed robbers with AK 47 riffle guns are said to have attacked an Okada rider at Mission Street in Waterloo on Saturday at 8pm. According to the rider Amadu Wurie, one of the robbers identified as David Kainessie came on board his Okada at Four Mile park and asked to be taken to Mission Street. At Fullah Town Junction, the robber asked him to stop the bike and suddenly his colleague robber appeared on the scene and attacked him. Several gun shots were fired by the robbers and took away his money and okada. Police are said to have arrested Kainessie who is helping them in their investigation .


SCS Boss Refutes Staff Claims


Managing Director of Sierra Construction Services (SCS) Limited has dismissed as false and malicious claims made by some workers that the companys Assistant Finance Officer, Rolla Zain was harassing them and has no working and residential permits. Nabih Nasser is said to have described madam Zain as peaceful and determined to see that workers are giving the right treatment to go about their work without any problem. He said he was surprised to hear negative things about madam Zain.


SLRTC Capacitates 24


Twenty Four Youths including women on Saturday 11th December 2010 graduated after successfully completing three-year training in Auto- Mobile Mechanic at the Sierra Leone Road Transport Corporation (SLRTC) Training Institute in Freetown. Mr. Andrew Conteh who chaired the occasion said that technical skills equip youths to become productive citizens in society but acquiring such skills is an expensive process that is difficult to undertake. He commended the General Manger and Board of SLRTC for empowering the youths and proffered that the training would improve safety, reliability and comfort on SLRTC buses.

Female Student Kidnapped in Makeni

A student of the Makeni Polytechnic was kidnapped on Saturday night few hours before she was to compete in a beauty pageant organized on campus. Ebie Garber of the Education Department received a call in her mobile phone and when she went out of the hall to meet the caller she never returned. The victim is said to have resurfaced on campus on Sunday and narrated her ordeal. The police have questioned her on the incident as to who might have kidnapped her .Nine students are said to have been arrested by the police in relation to the incident.
