Fambul Tok Goes to Bombali
Fambul Tok International on Monday 13th December 2010 held a meeting with local authorities in the Bombali District to seek their opinion and have their consent in launching the organizations operation in the district. The Executive Director of Fambul Tok John Caulker informed the elders that the organization was establish to address what went wrong during the war and help to settle disputes between neighbour and families who were not in speaking terms after the war
Minister Bags Visionary Leadership Award
Out-gone Minister of Social Welfare Gender and Children’s Affairs on Monday 13th December 2010 received a prestigious award from the Children’s Forum Network (CFN) for his visionary leadership in the Ministry and for supporting children causes in the country. Dr. Soccoh Kabia was presented with the award during a handing over ceremony of the Ministry to the incoming Minister. Dr. Denis Sandy. CFN National Welfare Chairman, Mohamed Kunta is reported as saying that Dr. Kabia was able to record several achievements during his time as Social Welfare Minister as he placed children’s issues at the forefront of his work.
Business Bomba Booms
Organizers of the Business Bomba Competition are said to have disclosed plans to stage another contest for people with business ideas in the eastern district town of Kenema. This venture reports say was in support of grassroots traders establishing business industry in the country. Senior Project Manager of Business Bomba Sierra Leone David Bartholome said the financial group was established with the aim of boosting the business industry in Sierra Leone for economic growth and national development.
PUSH Holds Peaceful Elections
A non- governmental and non- political association called People United to Save Humanity (PUSH) on Sunday 12th December 2010 held their election for officers into various positions in the association at Calabatown in Freetown. The programme was presided over by Mr. Solomon Tucker. The Chief Electoral Commissioner Mr. Andrew Kamanda who is said to have conducted credible elections cautioned elected members to be dedicated and committed to their work.
NAS Holds Workshop with Parliamentarians
The National HIV/AIDS Secretariat in Collaborations with UNFPA and Parliamentary Committee on HIV/AIDS on Tuesday 14th December 2010 conducted a one day Sensitization on comprehensive condoms programme and HIV/AIDS presentation at Parliament building in Freetown. The Chairman of the occasion who is Deputy Majority Leader of the House of Parliament Hon. Sufian Kargbo said HIV/AIDS is real and noted that the workshop was timely. Abu Bakarr Koroma of the AIDS Secretariat noted that the purpose of the workshop was the prevention of HIV/AIDS through condoms and to update Honorable MPs about the new Strategic Plan of HIV/AIDS.
Police Arrested for Stealing Diamonds
Sergeant Mohamed Conteh attached to the Zimmi Police Station has been reportedly arrested and detained at the Criminal Investigation Department in Bo Police. He is alleged to have stolen 3 pieces of diamonds. On 11th December 2010, the complainant, a resident of Zimmi, claimed that he was in possession of the alleged pieces of diamonds when they dropped from where he kept them. The diamonds were discovered and picked up by a girl and was about to hand them over to the owner when sergeant Conteh is said to have forcefully snatched them from her. The matter is under investigation.
Armed Robbers Attack Allen Town
Armed Robbers said to be armed with knives and other dangerous weapons attacked Mr. and Mrs. Conteh of Barrie Drive Allen Town and snatched the bag of Mr. Conteh which contained money, mobile phones and other items worth millions of Leones. The attack is said to have been carried out by five youths believed to be residents of the area but could not be identified by the victims. Police are investigating the matter.
MPs, Councilors Set for December 24
Two Members of Parliament and two councilors of constituencies 35 and 36 in the Bombali District will next week take part in a four hour live discussion programmes at radio Okuntun FM 94.0 in Kamakwie to explain what they have done since their election three years ago.
