Ministry of Finance Ends Workshop on Budget Process
The Ministry of Finance and Economic Development has reportedly ended a one- day consultative meeting with ministries, departments, agencies and local councils on budget process. According to reports, the meeting was held at the Miatta Conference Hall in Freetown last Monday on the theme “Making Budget Execution more Credible in Fiscal Year 2011- year of Implementation.” The aim of the workshop was to discuss and outline the way forward on the 2011 budget and financing in line with the agenda for change.
New Christian TV Station for Sierra Leone
Local tabloids have disclosed the establishment of the first Christian Television Station in the country. The TV, Kedar Faith Television, is a non profitable Christian station registered as private entity under the proprietorship of a female clergy, Rev. Sukai Mahdi. According to her, the station can be turn in on UHF Frequency on channel 44. The station is aimed at propagating Christian programs, as well as other important programmes like education, development, obituaries and public notices.
NP to Extend to Liberia
Reports have it that, the National Petroleum (NP) Sierra Leone Limited is on the verge of extending its services to Liberia and will soon rebrand and change its Logo. According to Chairman of Directors of the Petroleum Company, Mike Pariol the decision was made at a meeting of directors and other stakeholders of the company. The Managing Director NP, Alhaji Babatunde Cole reportedly informed that the company made so much profit this year.
Women for World Health International Boost Makeni
Local tabloids say, at least a team of 16 men medical personnel from the Women for World Health International recently conducted surgery in Makeni City. According to reports, they were brought from California in the USA through the help of the Catholic Mission to render a free medical service for patients at the Holy Spirit Hospital in the North. Reports say 80 children who were suffering from horrific deformities have been healed by the team.
President Koroma Graces Alpha Conde’s Inauguration
The President of Sierra Leone Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma has reportedly joined other International dignitaries to grace the swearing in and Inauguration of President elect of the Republic of Guinea, Alpha Conde. Guinea has been ruled undemocratically for over forty years. President Conde defeated his closed rival, Cellou Diallo of the UFDG party after scoring 53% in the presidential run off election in November 2010.
Boat Owners to Meet President Koroma
Sierra Leone Artisanal Fishermen Boat Owners Union (SLAFBU) is expected to hold discussion with President Ernest Bai Koroma shortly to discuss pertinent issues affecting the welfare of its members. The acting President of SLAFBU Mr. Salfu Kamara is said to have disclosed that the Union was in dire need of fishing gears and outboard engines that are out of the reach of fishermen due to their exorbitant cost. He called on members to buy their membership cards in order to benefit from project implemented by the organization.
Koinadugu Peace Mothers Trained
Fambul Tok International a local non- governmental organization working to empower women through reconciliation within the communities has on 17th December 2010 organized a workshop for Peace Mother’s in Koinadugh District, Northern Sierra Leone. The training covered topics like communication skills, human rights and reconciliation. Participants were provided with communication sets that include recorders, cassettes, radio sets and batteries. The Programme Manager Fambul Tok International Sheku Koroma urged the participants to pass the knowledge and skills gained to their colleagues.
Police Assures Bo Residents of Security
The Local Unit Commander (LUC) at the Bo Police Division has assured residents of the township that Bo and its environs will be well policed during the festive period. Supt. Theophilus Senesie is said to have made this statement during the official opening ceremony of the Sierra Leone Broadcasting Corporation (SLBC) 96.5 FM’s 2010 carnival in Bo City. The police boss said that the alarming rate of armed robbery in the township has scaled down adding that the city is now being demarcated by zones with each boasting of a police post manned by personnel on 24 hour basis.
