New Apostolic Church Donates to Kissy Mental Home


New Apostolic Church Mission Aid- Sierra Leone on Friday 17th December 2010 donated end of year items to the Kissy Mental Home in Freetown. The items included  bags of rice, onions, oil, soap and salt among others. The Country Manager of New Apostolic Church Mission Mr. Samuel Cole is said to have disclosed that the donated items to the Kissy Mental Home are part of his mission every end of year programme to the needy people across the country.


NCC Boosts Education in Salone


The New Community Church (NCC) with support from a Washington DC based Organization BRIDGE is currently offering free education to two primary schools from classes 1-6 in Makeni one of which is the New Community Church Christian Primary School. The Contact person Mr. Allen Tamba Boakar said they also provide food, uniforms and other important school materials for the children. He added that his organization through the help on BRIDGE is also financially aiding amputees in Makeni to do business.


Police Boss Brutalizes a Woman


A police superintendent on 2nd December 2010 is said to have stricken a woman to coma along Kissy Road in Freetown. Superintendent Max Kanu known as ‘ECOMOG’ brutally beat up one Mammy Marie Bangura following an augment between him and a Sierra Leonean claimed to be serving the US Marine. According to reports, the US Marine who is the son of Mammy Marie Bangura was heading for the Road Transport Office to secure license for his vehicle when he was intercepted by Supt. Max Kanu. The mother in an attempt to plead to the police to have them released met the heavy hand of Max Kanu.


G4 Security Guards Clean Lumley Beach


Local tabloids have it that the G4 Security Group will today clean the Lumley Beach in Freetown. According to reports, this responsibility is taken in order to ensure that there is no fear and insecurity to the health of holiday makers who are set to converge at the beach during Christmas. The Executive Director of the Company Mr. Joseph Koroma reportedly disclosed that the venture is part of their Corporate Social Responsibility.


Suspected Rapist Buys His Way Out


Reports have alleged that, a 45 year old man who is said to have raped a 12 year old school girl at Portee in Freetown has paid the sum of One Million Leones to the parents and Five Hundred Thousand Leones to the police for an out- of –court settlement. Reports say the victim was repeatedly raped for over a month before the parents took her for medical examination to Dr. Jones of Urban Center Kissy Health Unit. After the doctor’s findings it was revealed that the girl was no longer a virgin and one Chernor was named as the person who had deflowered her.


US Based Sierra Leonean to Launch New Album


It has been revealed that a Sierra Leonean female artist Gilleh Scholz based in the US will soon launch her latest international album which is currently hitting the airwaves in both Europe and the US. According to reports, Gilleh will launch her new album titled,’ Bringing the News” in March 2011. Mr. Desmond Finely of Premier Media Consultancy is said to have disclosed that Gilleh will also do live performance during the celebration of Sierra Leone fiftieth anniversary in April next year.


Sacked FCC Workers Plan Big Demo


Local tabloids have alleged that sacked workers of the Freetown West Management Sector of the Freetown City Council (FCC) have down tool for going without salaries and other administrative arrangement, and are planning a big demonstration. Reports say, the FCC is facing a serious financial crisis and can no longer fulfill its obligation. The Freetown City is being inundated with dirt, a situation that threatens the health of the people.  The waste management workers are said to have made a formal complaint against the Mayor to the Ombudsman for their end of service benefit and other emoluments due them.


Consultative Workshop on Rural Development Ends in Kenema


The Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development recently ended a two day consultative workshop in Kenema and Makeni. The aim of the workshop was to discuss the development of a rural development policy for Sierra Leone .Many critical and developmental issues were discussed to enhance the local government system.
