So Did President Koroma Lie?

By Dr. Sylvia Olayinka Blyden [BSc.(Hons), MB.ChB]

(Published on 8th November 2010)

I am currently in possession of a Special Three Years Turn-Around Glossy Book published by the Ernest Koroma Presidency in Sierra Leone and widely disseminated worldwide!  It proclaims supposed merits of an alleged Turn-Around this country has experienced in 3 years under His Excellency. This book makes ambitious claims including an OUTRIGHT LIE that a multiple-roomed Junior Secondary School with Principal Quarters, Water Sanitation, etc. etc. has been built at Tondola Junction in Kailahun District. This, is an OUTRIGHT LIE. No such school was built!   For a Presidency to make such an OUTRIGHT LIE in a widely publicised book gives serious cause for concern. Meanwhile, it is up to President Koroma to clarify why his Presidency lied about building a Junior Secondary School in Tondola.

PRESS RELEASE FROM KAILAHUN DISTRICT COUNCIL

CONSTRUCTION OF A JUNIOR SECONDARY SCHOOL WITH STAFF QUARTERS AND WATSAN FACILITEIS AT TONDOLA TOWN

THE ATTENTION OF KAILAHUN DISTRICT COUNCIL HAS BEEN DRAWN TO AN ARTICLE PUBLISHED BY AWARENESS TIMES ON THE 8TH NOVEMBER, 2010. THE TITLE IS CAPTIONED SO DID PRESIDENT KOROMA LIE? THE ISSUE CONCERNS THE ACTUAL LOCATION OF A SCHOOL CONSTRUCTION PROJECT IN THE DISTRICT. THE KAILAHUN DISTRICT COUNCIL WISHES TO MAKE THE FOLLOWING CLARIFICATIONS FOR THE BENEFIT OF THE GENERAL PUBLIC:

THAT AS AT 2009, WHEN THE PROPOSAL FOR THE SAID PROJECT WAS SUBMITTED FOR APPROVAL BY THE MINISTRY OF FINANCE AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT, THE PROPOSED LOCATION FOR THE PROJECT WAS TONDOLA TOWN.

WHILST AWAITING THE FIRST TRANCE PAYMENT, PLAN SIERRA LEONE INTERVENED WITH THE CONSTRUCTION OF SCHOOL AT THE PROPOSED PROJECT SITE. AS THE CONSTRUCTION OF A JSS SCHOOL AT BUEDU WAS NEXT IN PRIORITY IN THE DEVELOPMENT PLAN, COUNCIL AGREED TO CHANGE THE LOCATION TO BUEDU TOWN.

THIS INFORMATION WAS MADE KNOWN TO THE MINISTRY OF FINANCE AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT DURING ONE OF ITS MONITORING VISITS. HOWEVER, THE OLD DATABASE WAS INADVERTENTLY USED IN PREPARING THE PUBLICATION TO MARK THE PRESIDENTS 3RD ANNIVERSARY IN OFFICE.

THAT WE ARE PROUD TO INFORM THE GENERAL PUBLIC THAT THE SAID PROJECT HAS BEEN COMPLETED AS ONE OF THE BEST PROJECTS IMPLEMENTED BY LOCAL COUNCILS AND COMMISSIONED BY HIS EXCELLENCY THE PRESIDENT, DR. ERNEST BAI KOROMA.

APCs Biggest Defender is Kailahun District Council led by Tom Nyuma

By Bampia James Bundu

(Published on 19th November 2010)

One of the biggest defenders of the All Peoples Congress (APC) government is the Kailahun District Local Council under the Chairmanship of Tom Nyuma, it has emerged.

The Nyuma-led opposition SLPP dominated Council has now taken upon itself to be passionately speaking on behalf of the APC government, irrespective of the fact that Nyuma is still shamelessly posing as a member of the main opposition Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP).

Whenever the APC blunders in Kailahun, Tom Nyuma quickly intervenes by using his Kailahun District Council office to make a cover up and this is evident in a recent press release Nyuma issued this week to defend one of the exposed blatant lies of President Koromas governments recent publication.

The APC recently lied that they have constructed a Junior Secondary School (JSS) at Tondola, but they ran out of luck when the Awareness Times investigative team detected and exposed the deceit proving beyond all doubts that no JSS exists in the township.

Though the APC saw no need to officially counter the revelations of the Awareness Times, Tom Nyuma went berserk and speedily drafted an ill-authored press statement in defense of President Koromas presidency.

The said press statement, as published by the Torchlight Newspaper, is reproduced in this edition (down below), in order for the general populace to judge the character of this Tom Nyuma especially as Nyumas Council is now claiming that Plan International has built a JSS School in Tondola when our dynamic reporter Augustine Samba, scouted the entire Tondola and saw no JSS school there. Samba interviewed stakeholders in Tondola who all confirmed that there is no JSS School in Tondola. But Nyuma is desperate to defend the Presidencys over the published fabrication and so he manufactures a JSS School by Plan International.

Lord-A-Mercy: More Lies From Our Presidency And Tom Nyuma Can Not Help APC to Lie this time...

(Published on 24th November 2011)

Lord-A-Mercy
is an expression commonly used by Sierra Leoneans to express sudden feelings, and at the same time seeking forgiveness and intervention of God in a particular situation.

It was actually coined from the English phrase lord have mercy and has the same meaning in the local Krio parlance.

The aforementioned expression was the popular reaction of citizens from across the country on learning about the latest revelations of the lies emanating from the presidency.

Following claims from the presidency that certain developmental projects have been undertaken in the Pujehun Local Council, the Awareness Times investigative team has uncovered that the alleged undertakings are nothing other than sheer fabrications. See Part two for startling revelations

So Did President Koroma Lie? Part (2)

Sylvia Olayinka Blyden (just back from Cameroon)

(Published 24th November 2010)

This is Part 2 of my ongoing Questions for the attention of the Presidency of Sierra Leone. It will be recalled that on November 8th, 2010 this year, I had posed a question over why the Presidency fabricated an OUTRIGHT LIE about a Junior Secondary School in the township of Tondola in Kailahun District. In response, the main Opposition partys reprehensible Fifth Columnist Tom Nyuma was to shame himself and his political party by coming out with what he called a Press Release in defense of the Presidency.

The Tom Nyumas Release was rubbish and simply compounded the embarrassment as yesterday, Plan International, in a Statement issued to Awareness Times at our offices, reduced Tom Nyumas disgraceful Press Release to what it rightly deserves to be treated as: a piece of TRASH containing LIES. According to Spokesperson  of Plan International who visited our offices, Plan International has never built any School at Tondola in Kailahun District contrary to what Nyumas Kailahun Council tried to allege.

Well, let us move on dear readers. The Tondola School fabrication in the Special Three Years Turn-Around Glossy Book published by the Ernest Koroma Presidency was contained on Page 37. In todays question, again for the attention of the Presidency, I am turning my attention to the next Page which is Page 38 which also contains SEVERAL OUTRIGHT LIES but this time, not about a school in Kailahun but about the following fabrications that the Presidency claims to have undertaken in Pujehun Local Council:

1. Two Senior Staff Quarters rehabilitated and equipped with household furniture and utensils at Pujehun Township.

2. Construction of a Three Classroom Primary School including Head Teachers Office, Stores, three VIP toilets, a hand pump well and furniture at Liya, Kpaka Chiefdom.

3.  A Youth Resource Center at Pujehun Township.

4. A Tourist Centre at Sulima, Soro Gbema Chiefdom.

My investigative team has uncovered that all the above are sheer fabrications (ie: OUTRIGHT LIES)! It is unbelievable that our Presidency; our Fountain of Honour, is now reduced, for whatever reasons/excuses, to publishing OUTRIGHT LIES worldwide in order to mislead the world about Presidential achievements. Not just in Kailahun but in Pujehun and possibly, even more revelations on the way as my investigators are hotly on this task right now.

As I stated on November 8th 2010, it is up to President Koroma to clarify, if he wishes, about why his Presidency LIED about building non-existent structures in Sierra Leone. For a Presidency to publish such OUTRIGHT LIES in a widely publicized book, gives serious cause for concern! This time, Tom Nyuma cannot speak on the APCs behalf as he is not the Pujehun District Local Government Chairman. I doubt if our brother, Saddiq Sillah, the Pujehun District Chairman will be willing to help defend these LIES from the Presidency; as freshly uncovered by Awareness Times since Saddiq Sillah does not have threat of Bambay Kamara Inquest hanging over his head!

The Presidency should explain (if there is respect for us voters!) why all these OUTRIGHT LIES to the world about achievements in three years? The country, nay the entire world, is waiting.

This is serious Mr. President & Fountain of Honour! Very serious!

Tom Nyuma Apologizes to Plan Sierra Leone

Bampia Bundu

(Published 25th November 2011)

The confused Chairman of the Kailahun District Council, Tom Nyuma has swallowed his words and apologized to Plan Sierra Leone for wrongly including their name in his shameful attempt to defend lies as published in a Presidential Book and exposed by Awareness Times newspaper.

It could be recalled that on the 17th November 2010, Tom Nyumas Kailahun District Council published a paid-for press release in the pro-APC Torchlight Newspaper in which Nyuma attempted to defend lies that emanated from the APC presidency. The release speaks for itself and has caused many members of the main SLPP opposition party to become even more upset with the actions of Tom Nyuma, a man they had voted into office en masse under the SLPP symbol.

However, in another press release issued yesterday and signed by Tom Nyuma (one week after the first press release), Nyuma has now accepted that he had lied in the first release by confessing that no secondary school was ever built in Tondola by Plan Sierra Leone or Plan International. Interestingly, the new Tom Nyuma release confirms the investigations of Awareness Times by endorsing our report that whilst there is no secondary school, there was only a primary school supported by UNICEF.

The Kailahun District Council therefore regrets any inconvenience/embarrassment the information might have caused to Plan Sierra Leone, Tom Nyumas signed press release reads yesterday.

It could be noted that the Spokesperson of Plan Sierra Leone was at the offices of Awareness Times Newspaper on Tuesday 23rd November 2010 and was also spotted on the same day at the offices of the Torchlight Newspaper, and was on a mission to disclaim earlier assertions of Tom Nyuma that Plan Sierra Leone has built any school at Tondola in Kailahun.

When contacted, Editor for the Torchlight Newspaper, Alhassan Spear Kamara, told the Awareness Times yesterday that the press release published on 17 November 2010 from the Kailahun District Council, which was first published in the Torchlight Newspaper, was an official document which he informed was paid for on behalf of the Kailahun District Council through the Governments Decentralization Secretariat.

He expressed surprise that Mr. Nyuma was now retracting the contents of the first Press Release in this second one of yesterday.

With all the aforementioned revelations, the minds of the citizens are now in doubts over the desperation of Tom Nyuma to defend the lies of the APC government.

Tondola School is not useful in Buedu!

APC Politics Backfires in Kailahun

By Augustine Samba

(Published 19th January 2011)

A week-long investigative tour by Awareness Times Team in Kissy Tongi Chiefdom, Kailahun District discovered, to their utter dismay, that the Junior Secondary School diverted from Tondola by the District Chairman, Tom Nyuma to be constructed at Buedu is lying in waste.  The school structures, about half a mile from the township of Buedu serves nobody - no teachers; no pupils. The entire school environment has no sign of human activity as the environs is gradually being undertaken by grass.

Many views were sought on the current situation why the school is not functional. According to a young man who gave his name as Alhaji Kamara, the council has not given a clear cut motive for those structures. He said besides they are located far away from the highway. He also said teachers, especially trained and qualified ones hardly got to that part of the country. Except by coincidence, we have few good teachers here and the population is small. What we want is skills training institutions, not schools again, the young man said.

Paramount Chief Nyuma Sengu Sahr Kallon V too is not happy with the construction arrangement.  Before council started the construction of that school, I advised them to locate it on the highway as a Junior School but nobody listened. According to the chief, the school is having three teachers and a Principal, one Cornelius Bundor, he said. But since the school is under-staffed, they are yet to open it, he unconvincingly said.

When demanded to speak with the principal however, the PC was quick to disclose that the said Bundor is supposed to be residing in Freetown currently.

But according to many others interviewed, the school has no significant use in that locality. We know the chairman used his influence to bring the school here to impress the people that the APC is doing well in this part of Kailahun District, so projected a primary school teacher, adding: all we know is that this development is not serving the people. He said there are institutions here that need structures but since most of the authorities are SLPP, they could not benefit.

It could be recalled that sometime in parliament to mark the third anniversary of the APC, President Koroma informed the nation that a junior secondary school had been constructed at Tondola in the Njaluahun Chiefdom that later turned out to be fallacious.  In essence, it was proven later, through a press release from the Kailahun District Council that the school project was relocated to Buedu.  The press release was issued following Awareness Times publications exposing the lies of the Presidency. More revelations of the Tondola School in subsequent editions of this newspaper.

APC Government Neglects Buedu School

By Augustine Samba

(Published 24th January 2011)

Published An investigation by the Awareness Times Newspaper has unearthed sheer neglect on the part of the All Peoples Congress (APC) led Government of Sierra Leone for the Eastern Islamic Junior Secondary School in Buedu, Kissy Tongi Chiefdom, Kailahun District.

The school authorities and pupils are finding it difficult to cope without teaching and learning materials, furniture and toilet facilities.

Education in that part of the country continues to deteriorate as all the calls for the intervention of the government has so far fell on deaf ears.

Instead of boosting the school which was constructed by the indigenes themselves, the APC government went ahead and constructed a fresh school in the bushes in the outskirt of Buedu, which is presently serving no useful purpose.

At Buedu, Principal of the Eastern Islamic Junior Secondary School, Mr. Sewa Amara explained that the school is in dire need of help.

He informed that the school was constructed in 2008 by indigenes of Buedu when they realized the need for a school where children will be taught both Arabic and English. He disclosed that they have exploited several quarters seeking help for the improvement of the school as its lacks certain facilities including toilets, teaching and learning materials.

The principal disclosed that over 350 pupils are currently enrolled in the school but the government is yet to approve it. He said when they noticed that the Kailahun District Council was planning to construct a school for Buedu, they pleaded to the Kailahun District Chairman Tom Nyuma through his council authorities to rather improve on the infrastructure and other facilities of the already existing school instead of constructing a new one. We staged a protest march with pupils and parents of the school to our Paramount Chief to support our request but we were turned down, the principal said.

The Kailahun District Council went ahead with their plans and constructed the school few miles away from Buedu where it is presently serving no useful purpose, Amara disclosed.

Paramount Chief of Kissy Tongi Chiefdom, PC Nyuma Sengu Sahrkallan V said Management of the Eastern Islamic Secondary School staged a protest march but failed to yield the desired result.

Pupils and parents of the school interviewed said they deserved help from stakeholders whilst continuing their pleas for intervention of government and other stakeholders.

Sometimes, it is necessary for government to support other peoples initiatives in order to enhance develop
ment, said one of the pupils Fomba Kanneh.

The Principal of the Kissy Tongi Secondary School, Mr. Moris S. Bockarie, also informed our reporter that he advised the authorities to construct a vocational school rather than building another school as Buedu already has two secondary schools.
