CULLED FROM APC WE YONE NEWSPAPER OF MONDAY 24TH JANUARY 2011
The views expressed below are being published today by Awareness Times to help our readers put current national polity into proper perspective.
An insider of the opposition SLPP while conceding to the fact that inspite of their unwarranted criticisms of the successes and strides of President Koromaís APC administration for the past three years, President Koroma, he disclosed in an exclusive interview, has excelled internationally disclosing further shock awaits SLPP ahead of the conduct of 2012 general elections.
ďThe recent rating of President as the number 9th¬†President in Africa in areas of good governance and human development is a clear attestation of his successĒ, the SLPP insider stated, adding the gains in the Agenda for Change have made it difficult for the SLPP to win the hearts and minds of majority of citizens.
ďThus, inspite of the brave-face posture being demonstrated by the echelons of the SLPP and their nineteen presidential aspirants there is looming cloud of failure among them, considering the ground swell support the President continues to attract across the nation, even in our hitherto strongholdsĒ, the insider disclosed in that exclusive interview on condition of anonymity.
The insider revealed with all certainty that in addition to top notches who have drifted from the SLPP to the APC fold, further shock awaits the opposition SLPP ahead of 2012.
ďThe point is politics is all about service and the support of the people; hence the fact that most of the people in the South-East have expressed support to the President Agenda for Change and have even committed themselves to re-elect President Koroma in 2012 is a bitter truth for the oppositionĒ, the SLPP insider further noted.
ďAccording to in-house information, most of the present SLPP Members of Parliament representing constituencies in Kono in particular and other parts of the nation in general are reportedly planning to decamp from the SLPP and join the APC by end of 2011 or early 2012Ē, the insider confided, adding these politicians have no choice because their following have outrightly being demonstrating support to both President Koroma and the All Peopleís CongressĒ, the insider stated that it is on this note these SLPP politicians hope to survive in politics.
Speaking further, the insider disclosed even district council chairmen and councilors in SLPP dominated councils are reportedly working out exit strategies from the SLPP to join the ruling APC ahead of 2012.
ďThey are hoping to receive APC symbols once they join the rank and file of the APC so as to contest and win seats to serve their people,Ē the insider noted, pointing further the SLPP Leadership led by John Oponjo Benjamin Hirsh as National Chairman and J.J Saffa - Secretary General would be hurt mentally, psychologically and emotionally by this expected development.
ďIndeed it would be a big blow to the SLPP as the expected political development would confirm to all and sundry that the SLPPís ideology and strategies had failed compared to APCís successesĒ, the SLPP insider explained, begging for condition of anonymity. ďThis is not one party in the making as suspected by the Director of Communications of SLPP - Lawyer Sulaiman Banja Tejan Sie, but rather an evolutionary or even revolutionary process which has been brought about by the outstanding performance of the APC administrationĒ, the insider stated.
The insider concluded by disclosing that it is this expected shock being envisaged by the SLPP hierarchy which is responsible for them behaving rudely to certain politicians within their fold in both the South and East.
ďBut what do Benjamin and Saffa expect these servants to do when politics is all about delivery of service coupled with the support of their representativesĒ, asked the insider while accepting that indeed the political dynamics have changed negatively for the opposition SLPP ahead of 2012 and the foreseeable future.
ďIndeed President Koroma continues to excel while further shock awaits SLPPĒ, the SLPP insider confessed.¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†
