Besides the traditional exchange visit programme, the delegation were in Sierra Leone to see how the Young Menís Christian Association (YMCA-SL) is doing with the projects they are supporting, to monitor the impact of these projects on the beneficiaries and communities and to map a way forward.
At a press briefing on the outcome of the visit held yesterday, Thursday, 10th¬†February 2011 at the YMCA-SL HQ at 32 Fort Street in Freetown, the leader of the delegation expressed delight at what he described as ďthe warm and fraternal hospitalityĒ extended to him and members of his delegation as something I will always live to rememberĒ.
He registered satisfaction on behalf of the team about all that they saw pertaining to the YMCA-SL supported projects from Kissy in the east of Freetown to Kenema Town in the East of the country.
ďOur belief is that the YMCA-SL is not just implementing these projects as an NGO, they are really doing so because they have good feeling for the ordinary people,Ē Christophe said noting that his teamís interaction with beneficiaries of their projects in Kissy and Kenema ďhave all expressed satisfaction with the manner of implementation and told us that they are benefiting immensely from the projects,Ē the CVJM visiting team leader noted.
The German team leader applauded the YMCA-SL for its ďright investment initiativesĒ, noting that the association has grown from one that merely operated from within its headquarters some ten years ago, to an organisation that has Ďpeople-benefití investments in almost every part of the country. He noted that every project of the YMCA-SL is having direct positive impact on its beneficiaries.
According to him, what they have seen so far can be enough motivation for his voluntary organisation to increase assistance to the YMCA-SL. ďWe too are a voluntary organisation, and we raise funds through volunteerism. ďInasmuch as what we assist the YMCA-SL with is minimal, its rightful utilization can be enough motivation for any volunteer organisation to do more,Ē Christophe noted.
The CVJM, Westbund, Germany is supporting a pre-school project implemented by the YMCA-SL branch in Kissy known as the YMCA Guntmag Pre-school and a YMCA-SL Technical Vocational Training Centre in Kenema.
