In what is appearing as a swift reaction to Awareness Timesí Tuesday, 15th¬†March 2011 front page edition, which suggested that Dr. Alfred Bobson Sesay fled from a scene of violence in Makeni prior to the Bombali District Executive elections of the SLPP on Friday, 11th¬†March instant, the veteran politician has said he was witness to "two hours of sustained naked hooliganism and rudeness" perpetuated by one Abu Abu and a group of "violent-looking boys" at the SLPP regional/district office in Makeni.
According to the SLPP Northern Region Chairman, he did not flee from any form of violence, and that he left the scene at a time that was convenient for him.
He said he was in Makeni to broker peace due to a stalemate in the elections in Constituencies 28 & 29 where a sharp division had emerged between the local party activists. He said he had telephoned all the stakeholders for a meeting to amicably address the stalemate in the party office.
He noted that the meeting had barely started, when Abu Abu materialized and in a frenzy of rudeness, lifted the table that was set for the meeting and smashed it, while he shouted above his voice in Krio, ďno meeting nor go take place yahĒ literally meaning, no meeting will take place here. Abu Abu, according to Dr. Sesay, went out only to resurface with a gang of boys wielding canes and sticks, smashing window panes and breaking doors. Some of these boys, he maintained, threatened to beat anybody who attempts to hold a meeting in the office, while some others threatened above their voices to burn the building if there is any insistence on holding the said meeting.
ďAs an elder and regional chair, I applied all the psychology I studied in college to persuade Abu Abu and his boys to see reason, but to no avail,Ē Dr. Sesay noted, adding, ďI therefore had to see through that rude and hooligan behaviour for two good hours unabated.Ē
But the erudite politician said it was not long for him to notice that Abu Abu was acting on instructions from someone well above him, and therefore concluded that Abu Abu has no control over himself.
ďHe appeared hypnotized and therefore was acting in a trance that was calculatedly being remote controlled by an unseeing force,Ē he said.
He denied having been directly attacked in any way or form.
ďThe fact remains that I did not flee. I hardly flee from violence. Besides, I did not go there anticipating any violence. It was a family issue that had gone sour somehow which as a father, I had gone to remedy. I donít remember fleeing from any violence since my childhood. I donít easily get ruffled. I have a very strong resilient character,Ē the SLPP Machine noted.
He further denied the showing of any Ďjujuí or Ďporoí, but stated in a rather symbolic way, ďI did not see an open display of any Ďjujuí or Ďporoí, but the behaviour of those boys was a clear indication that they had been bewitched, and so, they were no longer in control of themselves and their actions, but by some powers far more powerful than they.Ē
According to him, it was at this juncture that he decided to leave for Magburaka apparently unruffled.
The Awareness Times is reliably informed that Abu Abu, the SLPP Northern Region Young Generation Leader, is one of the strong supporters of Maada Bio, whose campaign is now associated with violence.
