Charles Margai Heads for Supreme Court of Sierra Leone

Leader and Presidential Flagbearer of the Peoples Movement for Democratic Change (PMDC), Charles Francis Margai, has threatened to file a legal suit to the Supreme Court against Speaker of Parliament, Abel Nathaniel Stronge.

He made this disclosure while addressing newsmen at his Prince Street Party Office in Freetown on Wednesday 6th April 2011.

Charles Margai said the Speaker of Parliament has refused to force Hon. Legacy Sankoh out of Parliament following the latters expulsion from the PMDC party he is representing in Parliament, thus the imminent court action.

He then went on to read out series of correspondence between the Speaker and himself on the issue under review.

Margai said the PMDC immediately and accordingly notified the Speaker of Parliament of the partys decision to expel Hon. Legacy from the PMDC, and called for the invocation of Section 77 (1)(k) of Act No.6 of the 1991 Constitution of Sierra Leone.

Several other letters to the effect have followed but the Speaker continues to forward baseless reasons against the request of our party, Margai noted, adding: We are therefore left with no option other than to go to court.

At the news briefing, Charles Margai stressed that there was never an alliance between the PMDC and the APC, noting that they only supported the APC during the 2007 presidential election. According to him, the PMDC has always remained a separate, distinct and independent political party.

He further clarified that he has no intention to return to the SLPP since he announced that he held the view that in the year 2012, at Sharp 12, on the day of the Elections, he will be announced the next President of Sierra Leone under the PMDC when he would have defeated both the SLPP and the APC in a manner he described as, hands down, hands down!.
