The Goderich Police Division on Saturday 9th April, 2011 conducted a workshop on the theme: The Role of Local Policing Partnership Board (LPPB) in Maintaining Peace and Security at the village Community Center.

The workshop which was designed to inform the community of police managerial decisions in relation to community development attracted various stakeholders including senior police personnel, traditional and religious leaders and representatives from bike riders, fishmongers, sand miners as well as traders.

Talking on the theme, the Local Unit Commander (LUC) for the Goderich Police Division, CSP Alhaji Gibril Kabba-Kamara said the work of the Local Policing Partnership Board, otherwise known as community policing, in any community cannot be overemphasized.  He said the board was designed to help the police maintain peace and security within communities of operations. He said the LPPB of any community is tied with the responsibility of ensuring a peaceful atmosphere in operational communities thereby helping complementing the efforts of the police.

Head of Police Communications, ASP Ibrahim Samura, in his delivery thanked the Goderich Division for what he referred to as a very timely and important workshop.  Speaking on the organizational structure and source of funding for the operations of LPPBs, he said gone are the days when security was a one man business. Security is now a collective responsibility for everyone when it comes to fighting crime and/or the fear of crime, he noted, saying all LPPBs are headed and managed by civilians within their communities. The boards are expected to source funds solely for their daily operations which make them totally independent of police interference, he concluded.

The Chairman, Local Policing Partnership Board, Chief Sahr O. Gbekie, used the forum to express appreciation to the Goderich Police for organizing such a workshop. He gave special thanks and appreciation to LUC Kabba-Kamara and his team for their proactive policing in the community.

This workshop is very meaningful and will help board members gain wider knowledge in their operations, he asserted, while assuring the police of the boards continued cooperation to ensure sustained peace and security in the community.
