As SLPP National Executive Continues:... Maada Bio Na Big Rebel & Traitor! -Say SLPP Members

Contrary to widespread rumours yesterday by frustrated supporters of retired Lieutenant Maada Bio, Awareness Times can authoritatively confirm that the National Executive of the main opposition Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP) was not removed or replaced by a so-called Interim Committee.

Rather, the outcome of yesterdays events at the Party Offices have clearly sent a message to the retired military lieutenant that majority of party members were sickened at his tactics. Additionally, contrary to other unsubstantiated rumours as broadcast over National Television, it was not just supporters of Usman Boie-Kamara who held up placards and chanted in support of John Benjamin but the placard-holding SLPP members vested their support as cut across numerous aspirants.

Most of the placards carried by Elderly Women, Youths and Able-bodied men described Maada Bio in unsavoury terms such as Maada Bio na Big Rebel & Traitor. SLPP members chanted songs against Bios violence he has imported into the party.

A smaller group of supporters of Bio, also holding their placards, were to perpetuate their usual violence by hurling stones at the vehicle of Usman Boie-Kamara right in the presence of Police Officers. There was no form of provocation from Usman Boie-Kamara as video evidence in the possession of this newspaper indicates.

Speaking to Awareness Times yesterday at the end of the Meeting, National Executive Council members denounced the rumours of an Interim Committee being set up, as originating from those who want to see the SLPP in a state of shambles with no order and no control as that was what a so-called Interim Committee would mean.

Hon. Elizabeth Alpha-Lavalie, who also spoke to Awareness Times lamented that non-NEC members were allowed into the NEC Meeting hence allowing all sorts of rumours to be spread all over about what did not happen inside the meeting.

John Oponjo Benjamin is the National Chairman and Leader of the Sierra Leone Peoples Party and all members of the SLPP National Executive aside from J.D. Rogers and Musa Tamba-Sam continue in office as was resolved at the last NEC Meeting of March 5th 2011, Mrs. Isata Kabbah, the SLPP Womens Leader told Awareness Times.

Awareness Times has learnt that capable SLPP members are now acting in the positions resigned from by Rogers and Tamba-Sam.
