Hotel and Tourism Association of Sierra Leone has vowed to boost tourism in the country.

This was disclosed by members of the association during the official launching of association at the Country Lodge in Freetown.

Chairman of the launching committee, Mr. Ahmed Wurie, said the primary objective of the association is to unite all the hotels, guest houses, restaurants, and entertainment spots in the country, in order for all of them to walk towards the advancement of the countrys tourism industry.

According to him, the organization will seek training opportunities in order for its members to acquire international accepted service delivery. He however revealed that the organization is mindful of the fact that the present level of service delivery in the industry is sub-standard, noting that the organization will do all in its capacity to improve the situation.

Mr. Wurie confessed that the organization would not be able to achieve its goals without the support of its allied partners - the Airlines, the Tour Operators and the Travel Agents.

He used the forum as an opportunity to call on all entertainment spots in the country including hotels, guest houses, restaurants and night clubs, to join the association in order for the struggle to better the countrys tourism industry to be achieved.

We are very hopeful that with our combine efforts the countrys tourism industry will thrive, he said.

Formally unveiling the association, Minister of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, Madam Victoria Saidu Kamara, described Sierra Leone as a blessed country with huge, diverse and unique natural and cultural heritage potential which makes it an amazing and attractive destination for all. She added that the country has varied and impressive landscape, vegetation, and sceneries, adding that it remain a tourist dream.

She expressed optimism that the Hotel and Tourism Association will achieve its objective to stimulate growth and development in the countrys tourism sector.  She assured that the government will continue to provide an enabling business environment for private sector investment to thrive.

She further assured members of the association of governments support as and when the need arises.

Chairman of the Hotel and Tourism Association, Mr. Alieu Tamba Kokobay, urged hotel owners to register with the association, while assuring that the association will soon embark on massive training programs for its members.
