SLMA Distributes 500 Life Jackets to Boat Owners


Reports have it that the Sierra Leone Maritime Administration (SLMA) last Monday distributed five hundred life jackets to boat owners at the Kissy Ferry Wharf Terminal in Freetown. According to reports, all passengers boarding local boats have been warned to always use life jackets to avoid sea accidents. SLMA is reported to have distributed the life jackets on loan and more than four thousand jackets will soon be distributed to other boat owners in Sierra Leone.

 

Comium Launches Fast Internet Service


One of Sierra Leones leading telecommunication companies, Comium, on 9th May 2011 launched a broad band data internet provision called Wigo. It is alleged that the service is more reliable, speedy and of value connection. The ceremony is reported to have been held at the Mamba Point Restaurant, Wilberforce in Freetown.

 

Drug Scanning Machine for Guinea and Salone


Reports have it that a drug detecting machine will soon be installed between the border of Sierra Leone and Guinea. Guinea President Alpha Konde has reportedly revealed that the machine when installed will prevent the entering of drugs into the two countries. Paramount Chief Exposes Illegal Hunters in the Gola Forest. The Paramount Chief of Malema Chiefdom in the Kailahun District, PC Joseph Lamin Pamley-Ngevao has reportedly disclosed that some Liberian hunters are invading his Chiefdom to hunt in the Gola Forest. According to him, the hunters always cross the Sierra Leone border at night and hunt animals in the Gola Forest.

 

Wealth Builders CEO at Dying Point in Prison


Reports have it that the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Wealth Builders Micro Finance Trust is dying at the Pandemba Road state prison. Peter Ayinla, a Nigerian national who was arrested for operating a financial business entity without a license and alleged to be a fraudster in June last year is now reportedly suffering from malaria, typhoid, jaundice, pneumonia and diarrhea. Reports allege that the inmates will soon meet his demise if not taken out of the prison for medication.

 

Redundant Workers Receive Packages


Reports have it that retrenched causal workers of the Sierra Leone Ports Authority are now receiving their redundancy benefit from the ports Management. According to reports, over 800 of the casual workers have already received their benefits. The teams in charge of the payment include the ACC, the Police, Union members and the Port Management to ensure transparency.

       

Chinese National Electrocuted


Reports have alleged that a Chinese National, Sun Yunpeng 42, an employee of the MVAYA Fishing Company boat was on last Saturday accidentally killed by electric current. Yunpeng was onboard the boat alongside with other employees when he eventually met his demise. Police are currently investigating the matter.

 

Teenager Kills Friend for Le500


A 13 year old boy, Daniel Bangura is alleged to have stabbed his Friend, Samuel Kargbo to death for just five hundred Leones on April 27 in Bo City. Reports alleged that the deceased and his assailant had Le1,000 to share but Daniel seized it. An argument ensued between them and Daniel eventually took a knife and stabbed Samuel on the chest. Samuel subsequently died in a hospital. Daniel is currently on the run while police are investigating the matter.
