SLAJ to Revive Harry Yansanehs Case


Reports have it that the current executive of the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists (SLAJ) is planning to re-awake the case in connection with the death of Harry Yansanneh, former Editor of For Di People Newspaper. According to reports, an inquest was held following the death of the late man and Magistrate Fisher was said to have recommended that the culprits of the attack that led to the death of the late man should be brought to book.

 

APC Cautions NEC

 

The ruling All Peoples Congress (APC) party is said to have cautioned the National Electoral Commission (NEC) to facilitate proper sensitization on the proposed biometric system of voter registration for the upcoming elections in 2012. APC National Treasurer, Sanie Sesay, has reportedly asked the UNDP Chief Technical Adviser, Mr. Aamir A. Arain, to consider the high level of illiteracy in Sierra Leone and the complexity of the biometric registration, and support NEC on massive sensitization. Mr. Aamir Arain has reportedly promised to consult other stakeholders for the way forward.

 

Labour Ministry Warns Foreign Nationals

 

Reports have it that the Ministry of Labour and Social Security will start to crack down on Foreign Nationals this month. According to reports, most foreign nationals have not yield to the warning of regularizing their status in the country. The Ministry is now asking all foreign nationals in Sierra Leone to obtain their working permit application forms and to register with them.

 

Magburaka Complains Bad Road Construction

 

Residents of Magburaka Town in the Tonkolili District have reportedly expressed dismay over the manner in which their roads are being rehabilitated in the township. It has been alleged that the drainages are too shallow and hence heavy down pour will result in flood. Reports furthered that road contractors in the interior districts are bent on not only working at a snail pace but also engaged in poor work.

 

No Food for Patients at Lungi Hospital

 

It has been alleged that patients at the Lungi Hospital are going without food and drugs. According to reports, patients are currently buying drugs from private pharmacies and depend on only a meal for the day. Reports further revealed that Bombali and Tonkolili districts are without drugs for the treatment of Tuberculosis.    

 

Police Now Generates Income

 

In a bid to generate income for the force, the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Francis Munu, has reportedly informed that certain services provided by the force for private individuals or organizations in terms of security should now be paid for. He said such funds will go into the Police Development Fund to compliment governments subsidy.
