SLPP Flagbearer Aspirant Dr. Anthony Kakpindi Soyei has described the current atmosphere at the SLPP Headquarters in Freetown to be one of peace, tolerance, decency and discipline contrary to what used to happen when hooligans had taken over the partyís premises with ďDjamba and ViolenceĒ.
ďAlafia has returned to SLPP Headquarters... No more Djamba-smoking and no more violence,Ē Dr. Soyei proudly informed.
Dr. Soyei was speaking over National radio airwaves last Saturday evening about the outcome of a grassroots meeting in which around 500 SLPP grassroots supporters from all over the country had convened themselves at the SLPP Headquarters in Freetown to chart a way forward out of the current Bu-Buakei Jabbi quagmire.
Dr. Soyei confirmed that these 500 grassroots supporters from North, West, East and South had resolved to stand firmly alongside John Benjaminís decision to eschew violence from SLPP premises. He recalled how certain aspirantís supporters had taken it upon themselves to practically hijack the SLPP Headquarters during which they would intimidate other people until the dynamic National Chairman John Benjamin was forced to step in and make hard decisions in order to restore sanity as well as trust back into the process of flagbearer race.
Soyei commended the decision by the National Officers to implement a ban on 18 unruly supporters who had been engaging in extreme violence and indiscipline within the partyís premises. He informed that the grassroots have resolved to ensure that these 18 unruly members are not only prevented from putting up house permanently at the headquarters but were also prevented from going to any other SLPP premises.
About the call by Dr. Bu-Buakei Jabbie for the John Benjamin led Executive to step aside, Dr. Soyei responded on what the grassroots resolution on that was: ďNO!Ē
ďThe whole party has said that is out of the question,Ē Dr. Soyei informed, adding that selfish people with their baggage and hatredness had hidden agendas prompting some of such calls. He expressed deep mistrust of the motives behind Dr. Jabbiís ďshifting of the goalpostsĒ all the time and informed that the National Executive Council (NEC) has the constitutional powers to fill in any vacancy occurring within the SLPP National Executive and this has been done by the time the alleged vacancies occurred on March 10th, when the NEC extended the tenures of the current executive until the next Convention.
