UDM Wants Margai to Retire!

The United Democratic Movement (UDM) has called on the leader of the Peoples Movement for Democratic Change (PMDC) Lawyer Charles Francis Margai to retire from politics or he will be forced to do so.

This was revealed during a press conference organised by UDM at the Harry Yansanneh Memorial Hall 56 Campbell Street in Freetown on August 4, 2011. In his statement, the Interim Chairman of UDM Mr. Mohamed Bangura said Charles Margai had once made it clear that if President Ernest Bai Koroma failed the country he will retire from politics. Mr Bangura stated that Charles Margai has been going around lashing the President for allegedly failing the people of this country and yet still he remains in politic after such a "bogus" statement.

He used the forum to question the behaviour of Charles Margai over the past few months and called on the Sierra Leone Bar Association to properly investigate his activities.

Mr Bangura used the forum to make it clear to the nation that contrary to the "unfortunate" statement of SLPP Leader John Benjamin(JOB), neither UDM nor him is spokesman of ruling APC, as according to him, the APC has their official spokespersons in IB Kargbo & Alpha Kanu. He strongly advised JOB to focus on cleaning and marketing their flagbearer Maada Bio and forget about attacking UDM on baseless accusations.

"UDM is an independent movement, and we are working towards changing the political landscape in the country. We will not and will never serve as PROs of any political parties in the country, Mr Bangura said."

He pointed out that all they are asking for from the APC, SLPP, PMDC and others is political partnership nothing else, and they will continue as a movement to spread their support base. He disclosed that they have concluded their regional tour and have succeeded in winning many supporters who will storm the capital when PPRC finally registers them.
